Bob's problem is he has completely divorced personhood as a standard from humanity in general. Bob thinks you have to "earn" personhood somehow, rather than it being an inherent property of being human. The reality is you cannot, and should not, ever divorce personhood from any human organism. I still can't figure out the rationale behind MOS's "personhood begins at birth". Had he followed a sociological definition, that personhood is an interpersonal phenomenon and that one become inducted as a person through social interaction, I'd at least be more satisfied. This however entails that a baby gains personhood by interacting with the mother, and that babies dumped in front of church porches don't get personhood until later.Koby Fish said:

I think MOS is confused. He thinks personhood occurs the moment the baby takes a breath of air (which is stupid), because he's been brainwashed to believing that. He's also one of those exceptional individuals, like Bob, that have the unfortunate implication belief that "only Thinkers can be People" and "fetuses can't think" (really? How would they know?). This is because conscious thought is the thing that is supposed to separate humanity (sapience) from the rest of all living creation. But all of this rigamarole was constructed after the fact to justify abortion while at the same time giving a (bullshit) reason why it's "not murder". (I mean, I can get behind abortion for literal self-defense, but this is so rarely the case it doesn't even bear mentioning).
