With the inventions of Twitter, Facebroke, and Instathotgram, idiot "proud parents" have several more platforms upon which to plaster their spawn as if their spawn was the cutest, smrtest, whateverest spawn ever.
I mean, maybe some of it is cultural, like maybe the family has a long history/tradition of "MY KID IS ON THE HONOR ROLL" type behavior but a lot of it seems a bit dysfunctional/narcissistic to me. And not to mention fucking goddamn stupid, because this is the internet and there are some creeps there, not to mention trolls, so knowing this, WHY FUCKING MENTION YOUR KIDS? ESPECIALLY if they're under 12?! I remember some dumbass on a pre-Twatter/Facebroke platform from the 1990s who was being an exceptional (and I mean this in the replacement-for-r-word way) "proud parent" and bragging about their kid like a moron because every dumbass thing this person said about their kid was super cringe, even as they thought it was "cute". Like, to me, the kid had bad manners, but the parent thought the kid's particular display of bad manners was a "cute and funny story".
