Black Nick Fury showed up in the Ultimates which were basically the proto-MCU. Prior to that though, he was indeed a cracka'. He basically looked like Reed Richards with stubble and less eyes.
Also, anyone who quotes Falcon/Cap II is a fucking moron. "YOU GOTTA DO BETTER SENATOR" is not compelling, nuanced, or insightful. I like Anthony Mackey (although his beard was so weird in Endgame) but he was done dirty by whatever retard they hired to write Falcon & The Winter Soldier.

Black Nick Fury dates back to 2001, and it's just one of many things the MCU has taken from the Ultimate line of comics because those updated a lot of stuff to the 2000s from the 60s. Almost everything about SHIELD in the movies comes directly from the Ultimate comics rather than how they used to be in the Marvel universe.
