He follows troons because they are the only ones that are talking to him, them and Arthur Chu are the only ones who engage Robert in a conversations, besides some rando twitter socialist.
Robert used to pursue other female critics on twitter by doing re-tweets, doing quote tweets or replying to some of their threads, you know, the beta circle around, only to end up in some quick and disengaged answers or most likely to be ignored completely.
On the other side, no one really likes to deal with troon, specially nut cases like Luke and their public hysterics, so Robert and them troons are what is left for each other, kinda like when two ugly people marry, but a 1000X sadder.
And
@Positron already posted this, but this caught my eye:

I know Robert tries to pass this as a "joke", because he fancies himself as a internet comedian (heavens knows why), but so was this kid.
I mean, Christ, anyone who does even the slightest of the ribbings against capeshit, here comes movie Robert with the snark to put 'em down. It is comical how much of a knee jerk this guy has for anyone giving shit to the MCU crap.
If Robert could at the very least let some shit slide, maybe he wouldn't be the poster child for the "consoomer" meme.
Also, I know Robert is being reductive here to be a snarky asshole, but Dune is far from being "The Chosen One Hero Space-Boy Blockbuster That All The Other Chosen One Hero Space-Boy Blockbusters Borrowed From" since the whole premise is to criticize the very idea of the chosen hero.
Spoilers for Dune, the main hero of the first book, the special Chosen One, turns out he need to engage in a galaxy wide jihad genocide to save humanity from a bleak future, since it was the only way since the hero has powers to see the future.
The hero means well, and he suffers from his decisions because he is a decent guy after all, not to mention that the Jihad goes out of hand because of the fanatism that was created around his cult of personality.
Eventually, crushed by the responsability of being humanity's savior, the hero fucks off to the desert to be a bum and his son takes up his legacy, only to become a immortal giant worm, rising to the title of god-emperor and he unleashes to most ruthless empire seen to man.
Moral of the story, be carefull with charismatic leaders, aka, the chosen heroes.
But of course, Robert has read every Herbert's story, and his son's as well, not to mention that he could easly write several books about the intricate allegories contained in Dune, because Movie Robert is an expert in all things
