I can easily believe that if for some bullshit reason, Republicans offer the stuff Bob wanted and become more popular with mainstream, Bob would immediately jump to them with no question since it's trendy and can bring what he wants.
Republicans could be like "Free diabetes medication for all! Also, we will do everything to support marvel movies and youtube film critics with tax breaks! Free beer Wednesdays!" and Bob would still hate it because it's republican.

The reverse is also true. If AOC was like "Diabetics are fat disgusting pigs and will be double charged. Marvel movies will be shut down due to environmental impact and Youtube creators will be taxed harder" - Then Bob would still find some dumb shit logic where all those things are good and wonderful.

I sorta doubt it because with Bob in that hypothetical scenario he'd just act like Republicans became smarter and have finally caught up to the future with some snide remark about how if they disregard the working class they'd be better. With the AOC thing if his mutuals dislike that (or aren't super supportive) then Bob would pretend he'd always hate her since he tends to do that sort of shit where when proven he used to have supported something, he'd act like he always hated it (i.e. his thoughts on Hillary and how he viewed atheism) if it looks unpopular since Bob's only actual loyalty lies with St. Mario and the MCU, politics is something he'd happily change his mind about if it benefits him.

They did try something like that; it was called GamerGate
and Bob hated that too.

If seemingly regular people can stretch logic like that for Trump, then you bet your ass an exceptional piece like Blobert can do it too.

Well then there was nothing wrong with FDR throwing Japanese people into internment camps then, right? After all he was very LITERALLY fighting the Nazis at that time, right?

You know Bobby and his angels prove ever day exactly why trying to do your own religion is a very, very bad idea.

The real problem with this whole attitude, going back at least to the "punch a Nazi" trend, is that the word "Nazi" no longer means anything, other than "person on the right I fucking hate." What you have is a bunch of yobbos with violent fantasies who've dreamed up an all-purpose excuse for indulging them, or, more likely, justifying the people who actually perform them, since most of them are quivering mounds of keyboard warrior jelly like our friend Bob.

Oh quite obviously which anyone with a lick of common sense can see. The problem is trying to get them to see it.

There's a "catholic" moviebob figure (I've shared him some on the TDS thread and @Marshal Mannerheim and I like to laugh at him sometimes) who once went on a similar tear. I saw someone literally reply to him with his quote about ostracizing nazis with "All well and good - until you're the Nazi." And that person got routinely mocked for it - including by the blog host.

Since that day the person in question has been repeatedly tossed into "facebook jail" for random things and he STILL doesn't get the point.

It's amazing to live in a time where there's modern day witch hunts (thankfully non-fatal so far) carried out by people who supposedly were taught the Crucible and STILL think there's no possible way they will ever be declared a witch.

But you know, we can't possibly show any mercy or leniency to witches given how wicked they are serving Satan and all.

I wonder what happens if Bob's Angels took the Nazi or Bob quiz and find out Bob's rhetoric is worse than actual nazi's

CS Lewis had a couple of thoughts on this.

"Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil."

AND

"The better stuff a creature is made of—the cleverer and stronger and freer it is—then the better it will be if it goes right, but also the worse it will be if it goes wrong. A cow cannot be very good or very bad; a dog can be both better and worse; a child better and worse still; an ordinary man, still more so; a man of genius, still more so; a superhuman spirit best—or worst—of all."
Because at this point I feel like the farms needs a CS Lewis book club, one that sprung to mind for me when thinking of Bob's consoomerism was from The Abolition of Man.

“For every one pupil who needs to be guarded against a weak excess of sensibility there are three who need to be awakened from the slumber of cold vulgarity. The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts. The right defence against false sentiments is to inculcate just sentiments. By starving the sensibility of our pupils we only make them easier prey to the propagandist when he comes. For famished nature will be avenged and a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head.”

Personally, Bob makes me think of the idea of someone who could be characterized as having skewed sensibilities. The man watches movies for a living and seems to think that capeshit is the apotheosis of art. It really bothers me. There is so much beauty in the world, and so much great art that reflects this, and a """critic""" settles for Marvel as the king of the stack.

I'm no critic, I don't know what makes the best art. But for me, I've never cried at a Marvel film, none of the villains have ever filled me with rage, I don't feel the need to cheer the characters victories. I'm not saying they aren't fun, but I have no visceral response to any of them.

It is an outlier but don't forget about the guy who shot a random person in the head in Portland because he thought he was a Trump supporter.

Y'know, back when I first encountered Blobbo's "intelligence is the only morality" babble, I wrote about how wrong he is by describing intelligence as a modifier on the amount of good or evil one can do. That is to say, someone with higher intelligence is generally more capable of moving into a position where they can influence the lives of more people, and thus inflict greater good or evil overall. Or a higher intellect can conceive of greater methods of right or wrong; remember, there were brilliant minds at work in the Nazi and Imperial Japanese laboratories, and they inflicted enormous suffering.

Reading this quote, I'm not saddened I was beaten to the punch on this idea by several decades, but I'm happy that I came to the same conclusion independently of someone I respect like Lewis. Plus he puts it way more eloquently than I did, so I'll defer to his writings instead.

Which sounds a lot like those guys in the 30s that used to harass people just because they were Jews. But I've forgotten what those guys were called.

Blobbo's "intelligence is the only morality" babble
I think there's this sort of reductionism of reason into being synonymous with science instead of including other philosophical areas. In most people it's not 100% the same as they'll acknowledge, say, morality laying outside of the sort of reasoning that science is capable of. You also see this sort of Reddit "I fucking love science! Let's go do some hecking science! SCIENCE!!!!!!" attitude where science is the height of human work and so smart people will all be scientists (as we all know smart people are STEM majors and stupid people aren't. Nobody smart has ever become an artist, of course). Again, they'll eventually concede that yeah, I guess Beethoven was probably a pretty smart dude and he was a musician. A small carved out concession, but these people, as annoying as they can be, aren't absolutists on their insufferable opinions about science.

But Bob is stupid as shit, so he takes the most extreme possible position on this because he thinks it makes him smart. Reason and science are the same thing, and furthermore science can tell us everything about everything, including morality. This is because Bob doesn't know the actual definition of science so he doesn't know it has boundaries (this is because Bob is stupid as shit). Now it's not just the Reddit opinion that smart people do science and dumb people don't, it's that good people do science and bad people don't. Even better, the only good in the world is technological progress, with the Superior Future as the teleological purpose of mankind and representation of completion of technological progress, and it's being stopped by the bad people not doing science/supporting the government when it makes people do science. This makes them not just bad, but actively evil.

You may be tempted to try to poke holes in my reasoning by saying that Bob is an art critic and therefore cannot have such a low opinion about non-scientists. Have you perhaps considered that Bob is stupid as shit and cannot think hard enough to realize this?

I'll go take my meds now

The real problem is that it doesn't even work. No Nazi has ever been convinced of the error of his way by getting his ass handed to him, nor has anyone ever not become a Nazi because he saw one getting punched. In fact it does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. People won't go over to the side that beats them up, so they'll have a harder time getting Nazis to quit.

Bold of you to assume they want to convert Nazis. Remember Daryl Davis, the black man who convinced 200 Klan members to hang up their hoods? Antifa and Black Lives Matter hated him because he refused to buy into their grift. It's not about convincing others. It's about punishing their perceived enemies.

They hate him because he actually got results. If more people do that, they won't have enemies and will no longer be special*

*in their minds.

Not to mention Bob flip flops in how he feels about people politically since he used to hate Hillary Clinton, then became her biggest simp in the idea that she can bring his superior future and to own the chuds to then acting like he hated her again when she lost.

This is true. Bob actually started defending Chris Pratt being a Republican because Chris Pratt played Star Lord in several movies, and is voicing Mario in the Mario movie. I wish Bob would learn to feel this way about other Republicans, and not think they are automatically evil.

You must’ve missed when Moviebob had a mental breakdown about Chris being Mario and retweeting stuff that called him racist
