I’m not as familiar with the blobert clan as others ITT so maybe this isn’t surprising to some of you, but I’m genuinely doubtful/surprised that his brother “renovated” the place. The baseboard trim looks like shit or like it hasn’t even been touched.

I think these contradictions may partly stem from Bob's desire to be a "renaissance man".

He once said that not everyone can be a renaissance man, but that you should try to be anyway. Even if he doesn't know it, he was talking about himself there. It's why he has to have an opinion on EVERYTHING, even if it's something he clearly knows jack shit about.

He thinks he can be an intellectual progressive sophisticate, and a white trash drunken lout at the same time. You can't.

This is not the first time I've posted that clip here, which tells you that Bob's head has always been gargantuan. Also, those marks on the wall remind me of a time I visited a garbage house and noticed that there was a solid layer of black going up the stairs at about shoulder height. Which told me that these people had been using their hands to push themselves up the stairs and hadn't washed the walls in years. As much as I would like to attribute the Chipman children marking up their walls to some kind of Dr. Spockian method for instilling creativity , I think it's just due to plain old laziness, the kind that will eventually result in a reality show crew pulling up a dumpster next to the Chipman home.

This is funny. The reason "White Trash Districts" get federal funding is not because of some secret plan by Steve Bannon, it's because decades of federal funding programs target poor communities and, guess what, those are where the poor communities are. This isn't a Republican/Democrat split, it's actually originally a Democrat thing that Republicans then bother to not touch because it goes to their voters and is popular. (Many of them used to vote for conservative Democrats but those have been outlawed.)

Robert here though explicitly rejects the very platform of the party he so lavishly devotes his life to. Rather than redistribute from the rich to the poor, which for simplicity's sake we'll call the Democratic Agenda, Robert stands athwart history and screams "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Instead he declares we should redistribute to the rich, arguing that the market has chosen those places with wealth and therefore the tiny pittance left in the "Neo-Fascist hinterlands" should be scraped from the bones and redirected into the coffers of the already wealthy parts of society.

His anger with people he's never met and will never meet has led him not to take up the positions of the "right" so much as instead to take up a deliberate parody of those positions. And advocate for it seriously.

And yet we have posts on the last few pages mocking Robert for being a pseudointellectual or unserious when he's simply treading new intellectual ground that makes you uncomfortable because it necessitates a few million casual deaths. Well, so did the Holodomor, and in the end the Soviets won World War II.
