To be fair to Lindsay, that makes total sense.

If you take away the links between children and their parents, you allow someone else (in this case, whatever the American knockoff of the Young Pioneers is called) to take the role of the parents and receive that bond. I know 1984 analogies have been done to death, but read 1984 (which, FWIW, was based off Orwell's experiences in communist Spain during the Civil War), especially the bit about Mr Parsons' kids and how they happily turn him in to the Thought Police for saying "Down with Big Brother!" in his sleep. Then look at how the Soviet Union encouraged young people to turn on their parents.

Once you've done that, read up on how schools in the US openly indoctrinate children against their parents' wishes and how left-wing groups that are run by career activists and explicitly target highschoolers exist, and if you live in a big city probably have recruiters in your local high school, and tell me the American left doesn't want to send America down that route.
