I think you're thinking of "The Batman" from '04. Brave and the Bold came out in '08. I recall, from a really good comic, The New Frontier, they actually tried to blend the campier Adam West Batman into the overall mythos and it worked pretty well. While they just homaged the costume and didn't do all the goofy shit, Batman decides to kind of tone down the edge, specifically because when he tried to save children he was freaking them out too much, and he says something to the effect of, "I dress up to scare criminals, not children."

Regardless, the dramatic stuff is so connected to the character, that there have been tv and comic series just dealing with the day to day lives of law enforcement, because the world of Batman lends itself that well to procedurals/noir.

Oooooh okay, yeah. I was thinking of two different series. I guess The Brave and The Bold would have come out when I was right about to graduate, thus not paying attention to fucking Batman cartoons. So, I may have caught it on TV, thought it was the same thing I didn't like in 04. I wonder if I would like either of them now. I know I was one of those "This isn't TAS, so it's shit" kids. I met some narcissists in the past and even they had their moments of kindness with certain people, if you looked at them in those moments you wouldn't guess they are the same assholes that you know. Narcissists are incapable of natural empathy as a root cause of their problem. They can only really effect empathy for people when it's something that they have gone through because it doesn't require the abstract process of trying to "image yourself in someone's shoes".

Given that Bob literally lives in a basement talking on Twitter all day his pool of actual experiences is miniscule and thus then his ability to be empathetic to anyone outside of his immediate family.

Oh his attitude is so nakedly performative. Not only does he constantly thirst post, but the second he feels it's safe, he goes after a woman with both barrels, saying she's ugly, worthless, a whore, and stupid. It's why none of the feminists he tries to fuck will ever want to come near him, he's such a misogynist he can't even pretend he appreciates all women.

Somewhere in this thread is a tweet from MovieBob were he's clearly raging posting and wants some female US politician lady "stomped into paste". He's literally seething and imaging a mob kicking this person to death.

Even as a long-time blobserver, the naked aggression of it makes it rank as one of the worst things - and most anger inducing - that's he's ever said despite his genocidal takes being dime-a-dozen.

It seems like the perfect way to make Riddler serious/edgy to me, even in his wackiest he was an attention seeking egotistical serial killer obsessed with proving his intellectual superiority. With a competent writer you could do a great cat and mouse story of Batman trying to find his identity. Besides, there's nothing wrong with make obvious references to real events in these kinds of stories, so long as they're done in a respectful way.

Eh, The Batman is probably not worth the time. I remember when I watched it I felt like it was just TAS lite.

Brave and Bold is basically the Silver Age comics in all their bizarre and goofy glory. It also had one of the most innuendo laden songs I've ever heard, but I think it actually wound up cut from the original release of the show.
