Anyways, onto my 2 minutes of bob hate: his take on, "human presence on the battlefield is purely performative" should really go viral and get the Tomlision treatment. There is a nunber of reasons why this is wrong but lets go with the purely "not brain damaged" ones.
1. Utilities - assuming all warfare is done with magic drones (that can apparently be beaten with a tactical pickle jar) where are they getting the juice from? Where is the telecom grid? Can a drone act on its own when the real fighting starts?
2. Assuming we need some skeleton crew on the ground: how much do those fancy us army toys weight? If suddenly you have an equipment malfunction, is your grunt at 0% combat capability?
3. Lets give then the soldiers some legacy gear, that isn't so sensitive: can they remain combat active if they waste all their sttength lugging their gear around?

Money: Inflation means there's more of it, sure, but its value has fallen off a cliff. I almost choked when I saw the price of a cord of wood this year.

Tech: To rehash one of my favorite comments about the Superior Future, we haven't been to the Moon since long before Bob was born. Thanks in part to the pandemic restrictions he's championed, the next generation's on course to lose 10-20 IQ points off the average, so I don't see generation Z or Aleph-Null or whatever the next one is called saving us from ourselves. (My memory is fuzzy on this but as I recall in the old days an average IQ of 75 was seen as the cultural tipping point where cannibalism became unacceptable.)

Firepower: Our recent innovations - like drones - have been pushing to win the PR war at home (no one cares if a drone gets shot down, a fighter getting shot down is big news for days or weeks) and not to actually, you know, win a shooting war.

Intellectual superiority to produce and utilize all three: See above. I'm too lazy to skim Mein Kampf for some line about the intellectual superiority of certain groups. I suspect I'd find something, though.

Anyway, that statement has some profound stupidity behind it. For one, the commandos of the various armies in WWII, particularly Carson's Raiders on Guadalcanal and the Norwegians in Operation Gunnerside that took out the heavy water plant in their occupied homeland had to have an amount of physical fitness. I'm sure as shit that the Alamo Scouts who infiltrated back into the Philippines and the partisans behind Kraut lines weren't couch creatures either.

For another, the supply lines had to be maintained by fit and able men as well. How does he think we made use of the Normandy beaches which had no port facilities at all? We had to put the mulberry harbors into place. Let's not even get into the poor saps who had to haul shit around the mountains in Italy. Plus, artillery pieces required men to haul shells about and they weren't exactly light.

Lastly, and this may come as a surprise to him given his dismissive comment about the world post-WWI, but trenches and static fortifications are still used even in modern war. They are quite useful for a number of reasons and you still need people to build the damn things. I mean, there are pictures of trenches in the current conflict in Ukraine that one can easily see and, as far as I can tell, his beloved robots did not create them.

There is being beholden to an ideology or a view point and then there is being completely blind to reality because of it. He's latched on to this idea that mental superiority will eventually trump the physical variety that he's retroactively looked back in time and applied that to conflicts where the strength of men and even women both at the front and behind it meant the difference between victory and defeat.

Japanese naval strategy was based around a concept called the "Decisive Battle Doctrine" which was the belief that:
1) the Imperial Navy could launch a surprise attack on the US Navy and take out a lot of its ships
2) after this happened the US Navy would gather its remaining ships in the Pacific and try to fight the Imperial Navy
3) the Imperial Navy would engage in a "decisive battle" with this American fleet and defeat it at which point Roosevelt would see that the war was lost and surrender, lifting the sanctions on Japan and giving them a free hand in the Pacific.
This was incredibly naive because it implied that Roosevelt would do exactly what Japan wanted him to do. Once Roosevelt took advantage of the fact that America's industrial capacity was much greater than Japan and the Co-Prosperity Sphere's and properly mobilised that Japan had basically lost the war.
