Bob is  over that people are bringing this up to him.

This leads me to ask: How many actual, horrible people are there on the pGG side?

I mean, there was that one disbarred lawyer or something? But no one on the level of Faraci or Kluwe or Nyberg or Chu...

Pro-GG had plenty of shits. Mike Cernovich was the lawyer you mentioned, then you had Davis Aurini (a white nationalist holocaust denier), our own Homer and Lord Wulfgar (bigwigs in GGrevolt) and PressFartToContinue (who harassed YouTuber Dodger) to name a few. The thing is, as @Jaimas pointed out in another thread, for every Cernovich, or Aurini, or Homer, there were ten Izzy Galvez's, or Arthur Chu's, or Alex Lifschitz's. Not to mention, unlike anti-GG which fell over itself to defend Sarah Nyberg (an admitted paedophile), pro-GG was very quick to denounce Fart when it was discovered he was harassing Dodger and Aurini when it was discovered his documentary project had completely imploded.

I saw an image macro saying something to the effect of "I'm more horrified by what Clinton has done than what Trump has said". The same can be applied to pro-GG and anti-GG. While Aurini is pretty much a Neo-Nazi who's said some reprehensible shit and scammed a load of people out of some money, that's not really comparable to Nyberg perving on her underage cousin, or Chris Kluwe covering up a gang rape, or what Faraci's apparently done now.

This, but I have some additional data if you're interested.

I mentioned it in the GG threads and elsewhere before, but the TL;DR is that GG as a whole aggressively self-policed to keep a tab on people abusing the hashtag or false-flagging, which as anyone with experience with GG knows, happened a fucking lot, with Anti-GGers setting up organized false-flagging campaigns with their buddies to try to make GG look worse. They were so terrified of GG getting anything other than out-and-out hostility (see: David Pakman, TFYC) that they set up MacCarthy-esque "enemies lists" intended to work out ways to actively shut down anything allowing GG discussion. Suffice to say, if you see some Anti-GGer proclaim that they were "harassed" by Gamergate, there is a damned good chance that it was either:

1. Someone responding to something inflammatory they said/did
2. Some random asshat on a burner/trolling account
3. Obvious false-flagger
4. Wasn't harassment at all, was someone correcting information or disagreeing online

This has been mentioned a few times, but there's a reason that for all the hullabaloo, the best examples the Antis have of their own harassment include people who don't exist (:jace:), cases of already disproven hoaxes/false-flags (Chatterwhiteman), or some rando calling them a poop head.

This isn't to say harassment didn't happen, it just did in such tiny numbers as to be fucking ridiculous. Veterans of this site may be familiar with RedLetterMedia's takedown of the 2016 "Ghostbusters Harassment Campaign" which essentially turned out to be completely fabricated; as it turns out, investigations by Feminist organizations, using the block bot as a control, found that of their sections of tweets, less than 0.7% of all accounts posting under the GG hashtag constituted harassment.

Additionally, we have lots more examples of Pro-GG spergs getting called out:

1. Samuel Collingwood got banned from KIA after he repeatedly proved himself to be fucking incandescent levels of stupid. He's gotten repeated challenges and mockings from GG supporters for his basically acting like GG was his personal army, when the truth is that he used up any goodwill he had earned in the first few salvos.

2. GGRevolt, the "let's harass and threaten" arm of Gamergate later turned out to have been started by fucking Quinn's clique as a honeypot. It attracted the likes of Homer and Wulfgar, however, who proceeded to think it was a cool place to hang out and ultimately wound up discrediting Quinn's clique further when it became apparent they were wrist-deep in it. GGrevolt as a whole was blocked and/or banned from many platforms it controlled, and, fittingly, many of the biggest spergs GG has ever had were connected to it, though as @AnOminous once spectacularly put it, there's no way in hell they were in on the joke.

3. Keemstar was basically dismissed as a useless piece of shit by GG rank-and-file after he attacked John Bain. When you say you can't wait to report on a cancer patient's death, you kind of come across as a piece of shit.

4. Mike Cernovich is a serial self-aggrandizer and gigantic prick. His threatening to fight Anti-GGers who wished to physically harm GG randos was the sort of thing that made GG supporters facepalm.

5. Derek Smart's an asshole, but he's a neutral. Leans Pro-GG though, and he has some good information to share. However, he's fucking Derek Smart. I need say nothing else.

Numerically, when it comes to Lolcow Generation, it's not even a contest; Anti-GG has dozens for every single profitable cow GG has and GG is prone to join you in mocking those cows because most of them are certifiable nutcases. There's not a hell of a lot to say when you have Wulfgar's dog-fucking (for example). In fact, going just by prominent cows we've covered, the ratio is well over 20 to 1.

To me, a more telling statistic is the incidents that have actually happened - to Gamergate supporters:

* Multiple bomb threats at various GG meetups, including almost a dozen at the SPJ Airplay discussion.
* Destruction of a feminist charity by Zoe Quinn, enabled by her friends, so she could divert funds to herself.
* Multiple attempts by GG opponents to get GG supporters fired for supporting Gamergate. Dozens that we currently have on file. Several GG supporters have been fired for supporting Gamergate.
* Countless doxings, death threats, rape threats, and more directed at GG Supporters. This has included threats directed towards the victims' families. This includes directed, targeted campaigns intended to intimidate and shut down GG supporters, led by none other than Quinn's camp.
* To the bet of my knowledge, every single prominent female GG supporter has gotten doxed and threatened with death and/or rape.
* During the TotalBiscuit Incident, multiple GG opponents kept cheering on Bain's cancer, sending multiple death threats to his wife and son as well.
* Spamming DMCA takedown notices against Youtubers critical of Anti-GG.
* Utilizing their connections to get GG supporters permanently banned from Twitter without breaking any rules (GethN7, @le0pirat3)
* Utilizing their connections to get GG supporters shadowbanned on Reddit.
* Shit like Geordie Tait and friends advocating the genocide of GG supporters.
* Multiple claims that anyone who supported GG was worse than terrorists.
* Attempts to shut down GG neutrals and supporters that may well have constituted violations of RICO statutes.
* Harassing an Anti-Child Trafficking advocate for voicing concerns about the pedophilia advocacy of a Nintendo employee.
* Harassing Anne Rice, Richard Dawkins, William Shatner, to the point where they became GG supporters.
* Infamously trying to blacklist and threaten Boogie into silence.
* Advocating the harassment of a woman who was raped because a friend of hers who was doing charity on her behalf happened to be Pro-GG.
* Attempting to establish industry-wide blacklists of wrongthinkers who support or tolerate Gamergate.
* Being directly involved with the blacklisting of a reporter who did his civic duty (Alistair Pinsof).
* Complete media blackout on all the above, and more.

Sargon covered this a bit more in-depth, and KIA's had many threads about it.

That's before the CON Leak Logs, BTW.

Simple Question, for anyone who's ever tangentially followed GG: Not counting the spergs we've made fun of here, how many legitimate cases of harassment have you actually seen by Gamergate?

I ask because I can find fucking thousands of examples of GG supporters getting their shit threatened and attacked with no response from Social Media administrative staff (in fact they were often openly complicit), so why is it that I'm so hard-pressed to find the purportedly actual, legitimate harassment these people bemoan?

Brianna Wu, after two years of this shit, successfully only had SA false-flaggings, people making fun of her memes, and Jace fucking Connors as "examples of harassment." Anita Sarkeesian had some angry tweets that were mostly in response to retarded things she herself had said. Zoe Quinn openly false-flagged herself dozens of times. Fucking shamelessly. David Gallant often declares how proud he is that he harassed Total Biscuit, but his examples of Total Biscuit's "harassment" towards Anti-GG involved him mocking Anti-GG talking points and that's about it. Even the game developers themselves have pointed out who the actual harassers are, and it sure as shit isn't the video-game playing spergs in GG. Even now, if you look back through discussions with Anti-GG supporters, they'll repeat one tired meme, over and over: That allowing any discussion of Gamergate is equal to encouraging harassment and misogyny. This meme has never successfully been defended in a public setting; for a great example, watch Chu try to defend it on David Pakman's show sometime. It's fucking surreal.

Fact is: For all the talk of "both sides are just as bad," it's a fucking crock. It always has been, and it always will be. It's as fake as the fucking outrage over Ghostbusters or the argument that people actually wanted to buy Sunset. One side is the one doing the overpowering majority of the harassment - and it's Gamergate's opposition. All evidence shows it, all studies confirm it.

TBH while I get that people don't like Fart/Milo/Rouge/Cernovich or people like them. I would note that their personas actually did help a lot in making the Quinn's/Butts/Harpers less dangerous to other people because they basically become lighting rods to these people.

The CON logs are full of them freaking out about the "worst" people in Gamergate - with a precious few points where they target other people for actually being nice to them. If they hadn't spent time having shitfits about Brietbart or Juice-dude lawyering up, I think they would of targeted more people who couldn't really deal with them. Whereas guys like Milo kind of suck it up due to their own personality types.

IMO the difference between these social justice types and slightly more sane people is the ability to recognise not everyone is perfect nor needs to be. Nor does everyone have to like the same people or agree with each other. Accepting that people you might like now may fuck up later, and you may be pushed to decide if you back this person to help them, accept that fault, or decide to cut ties.

You write a massive post that's more informative than anything I've ever seen from anyone on GamerGate and all you get is a few positive ratings.

Fucking Bob vomits on the English language on his Twitter and makes three grand a month on Patreon.

Something is very wrong with the world.

3 fucking grand? For fucking what?

He's gotta let people fuck his jelly rolls at that point.

@Jaimas I'm using that to show anyone who thinks GG is a harassment campaign.

Thank you for your kind words.

Idly, name any item in that post I made, and I can get you a citation for it.

Fact is, this is one of the reasons GG's been a sticking point for me.

It's all well and good to make fun - that's pretty much what we do here, and there's no shame in that. There's plenty to make fun of in Gamergate, ranging from the fact that it's literally a group consisting of a bunch of nerds from across the tubernets that finally had enough of the media's shit, to the fact that this very group of nerds managed to do millions of dollars worth of damage to Gawker (to the point where several familiar with Gawker blame it more than Hulk Hogan for its demise), accomplished pretty much everything it set out to do (get the FTC involved enforcing disclosure guidelines, taking down pretty much everyone involved in Gamers are Dead, discrediting DiGRA as a whole), donated enormous amounts of money to charity, and most importantly to a Kiwi, gave us the glory that is the Rat King subforums and some of the most broken, dysfunctional lolcows we've ever had the privilege of covering. Hell, most GG supporters readily acknowledge how fucking Autistic the whole shebang is and will laugh about it right alongside you, because for fuck's sake: Look at it.

Over the last few years I've done a lot of chronicling about the subject, both in relation to lolcows and on its own, since I've been looking for my own answers about the matter, to the point where I'm something of the Kiwi Farms' resident expert on the subject. I've proposed a lot of theorycraft on the matter and I've taken a lot of time to try to figure out how the pieces fit together.

The simple fact of the matter is that virtually nothing ever said about Gamergate by the mainstream press, or by GG opponents has been even remotely accurate. Not even close. I'm not sure how much of the reporting blindly about GG being all about harassment is due to narrative pushing (we've seen it a few billion times with other cases of narrative pushing; again, Ghostbusters coming readily to mind) and how much of it is due to simply not giving a fuck about the actual facts, but the truth is right there for anyone who cares to go looking for it, which of course brings me to the last point I wanna make in this long-winded posting.

If you take a closer look at almost any high-profile Gamergate opponent, you will, without exception, find a case of them being either directly or indirectly tied to Quinn's clique in some fashion or another. This is literally why the fucking Rat King subforum exists, and the result of this is fucking self-evident.

Moving on to the subject of the thread, however: Has Bobby ever told you the real reason he got fired from the Escapist? He covers it a bit in his AMA on Reddit:

Bob_Chipman_Firing.png

There's more to the story though, if you're interested.

Chipman tends to use some weasel words here, so I'll break it down for the uninitiated. One of GG's biggest and most aggressive pushes was to attract the attention of the Federal Trade Commision to cover things like the blatant conflicts-of-interest exposed by the Game Journos Pro list and native advertisements. GG was hilariously successful at this - in fact, if Gawker wasn't killed by Gamergate weakening the company enough for Hulk Hogan to finish it off, odds are very good it would have faced a full-fledged FTC investigation over its shit.

Fact of the matter is, however, that The Escapist was currently being looked at - not actively investigated yet, but looked at - because several of its staff had been caught on the list or directly involved with other scandals. Jim Sterling, for example, was indirectly implicated in the Alistair Pinsof scandal, though it's questionable whether or not he had anything to do with it. The Escapist had nothing to hide, and was working with the FTC to establish disclosure guidelines, which Chipman himself was against.

Chipman also, however, absolutely lost his shit over the fact that Gamergate discussion was being allowed on the site, and he started going out of his way to leak information on what was going on at the site to his buddies in Quinn's clique, basically proving that long-held suspicions that he was just as involved with conflicts-of-interest as many suspected was a legitimate worry.

Bear in mind that at the time, the active attempts to shut down discussion of Gamergate was happening all across the net, and the fact that The Escapist was allowing discussion was a major sticking point for Jim Sterling (who quit the site when they wouldn't shut down GG discussion, which we'll discuss more in a moment), and Chipman as well - both of them also, surely by coincidence, happen to be personal acquaintances, IRL, of Quinn herself.

Suffice to say, these two chucklefucks arguing that GG discussion MUST BE STOPPED NOW BECAUSE HARASSMENT isn't looking particularly good when the inevitable occurs and the FTC starts casting its angry searchlight The Escapist's way, looking for malfeasance. The site tells both Sterling and Chipman to ratchet back the ongoing bullshit a few notches, since The Escapist was one of the first sites to enforce disclosure guidelines as a show of good faith and really wasn't keen on pissing off the FTC or its userbase - of which Gamergate was a giant chunk of. In fact, The Escapist's staff are among the ones who were in the GJP list, but told the likes of Ben Kuchera to fuck himself regarding censoring GG discussion on the forums. Jim Sterling saw this as kowtowing to internet terrorists and wound up quitting the site. Chipman, in turn, doubled down on his Anti-GG idiocy, in the face of all common sense. Chipman begins leaking ongoing details of the Escapist to his buddies in the clique, whilst actively running damage control for them.

At around this point, GG's Internet Autism Machine (read: the boycott arm of the movement) sees this, smells blood in the water, and it starts contacting the site's advertisers and the FTC about Chipman's massive conflicts of interest and support of Anti-GG talking points. If you're familiar with the amount of damage GG can do with just one fucking Boycott campaign, look to Gawker, which it cost it millions over the course of a few months - so the Escapist had good reason to worry.

The inevitable happens at this point, and Chipman is recognized as a liability by the site owners. His show is one of the least-popular the site has, he's drawing the attention of one of the biggest boycotting arms the Internet's seen in ages, and he's directly putting the site's attempts to make nice with the FTC in jeopardy by actively fighting the disclosure guidelines. At this point the Escapist fires his ass, and Chipman tries to make himself out to be some sort of self-styled martyr. Nobody is sad to see him go and his depature is literally cheered by the userbase.

So yeah, he sperged about GG until it got him shitcanned.

Lets see if I can read between the lines here...

The Escapist : "Bob, please stop talking about gamergate"
Bobbo: "Fuck you, you can't make me!"
The Escapist: "Do it one more time and you're fired"
Bobbo: "Haha, you can't fire me!...how would you like it if I QUIT Huh? what then?"
The Escapist: "Well, okay, have it your way, bye!"
Bobbo: "Uh...well...mhn...FUCK YOU GUYS I DON'T NEED YOU"

God, I love bobs huge stuffed-shirt ego..."ultimatums of my own":story:

Tl;dr: Bob is too stupid to realize that he's an adult and has to play by adult rules.

The Escapist understood this and realized that the days of clique "journalism" on the Internet were pretty much dead for them and decided not to take on the unlimited resources of a government watchdog.

Bob got mad, as autistic diabetics often do, and had a hissey fit.

What's both sad and hilarious about all this is prior to GamerGate, Bob was probably one of the biggest draws to the Escapist. By summer 2014, he had almost daily content up on the site. 2 weekly shows, 2 weekly columns, and they had him writing a lot of their one-off news articles as well. Yahtzee probably brought in more views overall, but Bob had to be the #2 guy in terms of pageviews through the sheer amount of his work they hosted. It wasn't until he started injecting jabs at GG in every. single. review. that people stopped watching his shows and started linking his twitter fascism in the comments/forums.

There are a lot of contestants for who destroyed their career the most over pointless GamerGate shit, but in my mind, Bob is second only to Chris Kluwe and Leigh Alexander.

So Bob's whole reason for sperging out on GG was because they tried to hold him accountable for his corruption :story:

Well, that and they "targeted" Anita, who he had been thirsting over for almost 3 years at that point.
