The idea that Hollywood doesn't want andor can't have women open movies has always been bullshit on its face. Women have opened movies for over a century, dating back to when Lillian Gish starred in The Birth of a Nation.
The only reason it's an issue now is a pathetic attempt by Hollywood to get people into theaters for identity politics rather than because actual good movies were made. The latter takes effort; the former can be bullshitted into an obligation.

Literally all you have to do is take a look at the wikipedia synopsis. It's a mix of BDSM fantasy and extremely indulgent writing. No middle aged women were getting wet over the scene where the two main characters negotiate how their relationship is going to go. It was all about the scenes with whips and candles and blindfolds, and "I'm submissive and pretty hesitant with BDSM stuff and maybe I can change this beast of a man into the man of my dreams!"
This is also a movie (and novel I assume, since I only watched the movie) where Christian Grey stipulates that she can't get fat or else she'll get punished, so not really the best example of feminist literature.
