IIRC, Romney tried a similar approach. I recall in a Glenn Beck interview with a member of the Romney campaign, he described how their campaign was much more "advanced" than the Obama campaign. While Obama campaigners were going door-to-door and talking to people, this Romney guy declared proudly that they had a huge technological edge over the Obama camp by engaging over Facebook and social media.

And, that turned out so well. It leads me to believe that if the Democrats actually ran someone who engaged the base, they would've trounced Trump.

The other difference is that Type 1 requires an insulin pump, Type 2 doesn't. However with Type 2 if you don't manage it right or if you just really let yourself go then you will eventually need scheduled insulin injections because your Pancreas will essentially say "Okay fuck this, I'm done."
