I suppose it would be too much to expect Bob to know what China's up to in Africa these days...
China doesn't really want a pragmatic and stable future, they want a future where they and they alone dominate. They're a resource vacuum. They're building islands to extend their national borders and have made a show of military force several times. Japan is undoing decades of non-militarism because it knows China is eyeing them. This is going on throughout South East Asia, but naturally, in his little corner of the world, the bad guys from his favourite 80s action flicks look far, far more threatening.

Plus that would mean looking at Japan (and the rest of Slanteyeland by proxy) with anything besides unbridled admiration, something Blob his proved himself very incapable of doing.

I think it's a sincere dedication to the idea because he wants to make sure he's in the right. It's similar with Dobson: most of this isn't shit he understands or has any business talking about. That much is obvious. But this attitude has kind of been the general direction of the mainstream American Left for the last few years, so otherwise decent liberals have slowly been going with the crowd because that's just basic political psychology. I don't think Potatey's paying lip service, but I do think he's taking other people's opinions at face value because that's how you're "one of the good ones".

Licensed games are notorious for being fucking awful. With more people researching what they buy rather than saying "Oh, Iron Man - this looks fun!" they make less money. This means that less money is put into license games making them even shittier. So really cancelling a license game is probably way cheaper for a studio in the long run especially when you can just put out some phone app which will take way less resources and people would be more willing to pay for since it is cheap.

Also if video games are indeed an "art-form" shouldn't they be exploring their own original concepts rather than chasing another industries coattails. I hate the "video games are art" types but it is so easy to turn their logic against them.
