How is this different than something like a cover though? Like, nobody is getting mad at Hendrix for playing "All Along the Watchtower" even though I think it's said Dylan did it first; though I've seen people argue over who was the original. For sure though, Guns N Roses was doing a cover when they did "Knockin on Heavens Door". I mean I've only seen Fistful of Dollars and that 'trilogy', I've not seen Yojimbo but the Clint Eastwood trio of movies seems original enough for what they are which is cheap, by the numbers, western movies. I mean they say there are only like 8 original stories anyway, youre bound to overlap, it's all about the artistry, yeah? I mean the only reason to watch those movies anyway is for the music, sound design and the climax because Ennio Morricone is a fucking artist in his own right. Ecstasy of Gold is famous for a reason.Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, there is a tradition of remaking Asian films with Western characters (though I have no idea if Bob brings them up): Infernal Affairs = The Departed; Yojimbo = A Fistful of Dollars; Seven Samurai = The Magnificent Seven. I suppose the difference is that Akira, contra Bob's idiot analysis, is far better known among general audiences than any of those were at the time they were adapted.
