Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, there is a tradition of remaking Asian films with Western characters (though I have no idea if Bob brings them up): Infernal Affairs = The Departed; Yojimbo = A Fistful of Dollars; Seven Samurai = The Magnificent Seven. I suppose the difference is that Akira, contra Bob's idiot analysis, is far better known among general audiences than any of those were at the time they were adapted.
How is this different than something like a cover though? Like, nobody is getting mad at Hendrix for playing "All Along the Watchtower" even though I think it's said Dylan did it first; though I've seen people argue over who was the original. For sure though, Guns N Roses was doing a cover when they did "Knockin on Heavens Door". I mean I've only seen Fistful of Dollars and that 'trilogy', I've not seen Yojimbo but the Clint Eastwood trio of movies seems original enough for what they are which is cheap, by the numbers, western movies. I mean they say there are only like 8 original stories anyway, youre bound to overlap, it's all about the artistry, yeah? I mean the only reason to watch those movies anyway is for the music, sound design and the climax because Ennio Morricone is a fucking artist in his own right. Ecstasy of Gold is famous for a reason.

Hey Bob, Ghost in the Shell is Japanese Blade Runner. I've made this point before and won't repeat myself, but as always, you fail to understand that some stories are asking you a question. The reason GitS is a classic is because it's asking a really hard question. I haven't autistically picned apart Akira, but I'm sure it's also asking a hard question.

Bob puts too much thought into movies that exist to be enjoyed as spectacles, and not enough thought into the ones that need it.

Story of his life. His whole book on Mario 3 is all about the spectacle side of the game with little detail on the actual thought it might even merit [like 1987's Japan situation and mindset and how that may have affexted development]. Regurgitating Wikipedia is enough for his fatass.

Fucking fatty couldn't even put images of the levels, though with his skills, they'd look like blurry Bigfoot sightings.

But when it comes to treating The Wizard like the life-affirming cinematic masterpiece that it isn't, then he'll pull out all the stops.

Its because Bob's taste is utter fucking trash. His mentality and analysis are firmly entrenched at the 9th grade level. I knew kids in High School who espoused the same shit taste, politics and video game feelings that Bob did. I mean christ, this is a man who described the console wars as his own personal Vietnam and thought it was a fucking great idea to admit that to the world. He is obsessed with having all his 'bullies' be killed, having the smart people (him) rule over them, tastes that never left his childhood, the self-centered narcissistic thought that you are smarter than most people and desperately trying to be one of the 'cool kids' even though they laugh at and ignore him. I usually don't call people manchildren, as it is a lot of the times hyperbolic, but Bob fits the bill. He's like the old high school quarterback, except every single facet of his life failed to develop.

And yes, people can (and do) still carry emotional scars from High school. Its our formative social years, so it can have a potent effect into adulthood. I sure as hell do, it probably made me a misanthrope. But me, like most people, are not fucking stuck there. Bob is, however. He's never looked beyond it.

Is that true for The Seven Samurai? The rest of them aren't very well known, but I'd argue it's about as famous as its remake, though that probably wasn't the case at the time.

Also Japan has made films from white origins: Throne of Blood is Japanese Macbeth.

Ran is inspired by King Lear as well. Kurosawa liked Shakespeare.

I'm just taking a wild guess that it wasn't known at the time; I could be completely wrong about that. Nowadays it's certainly at least as well known as ... well, Akira.

Watchtower is Dylan, but so is about a third of American songs from the 60s and 70s. But, Hendrix never tried to claim it as his own. Meanwhile Dylan was so impressed with Hendrix's cover he decided it was Jimi's song. There was a lot of covering going on, just like international films, out of respect for the material.

It's a little different than GnR butchering Knockin' on Heaven's Door. I love GnR but that cover is weak.

Goes the other was with Dylan, too. There are people convinced that he wrote House of the Rising Sun (and more loudly than even those that think The Animals wrote it). That song was old when Leadbelly recorded it in the 40s.

Oh wait, you only give a shit because he is on your team.

"Gater trash"? He still believes in Gamergate?
He is like the Japanese soldier hiding in the Philippines thinking WWII is still going on in 1970, except he is 10 times fatter.

Neither Bobby nor Dobbo has changed their retarded views, that's why their threads aren't going to end.
