In his Logan review, he praised the film while imploring other comic book filmmakers not to ape its gritty, violent style. What I meant was that he doesn't seem to get that subsequent films will do so either in hopes of cashing in (like how they did with comic book movies after The Dark Knight, which I believe is also a trend he hates) or in a more organic way. He seems to believe it's possible for a movie to stand apart from every other film of its genre without, in his view, tainting them with its aesthetics, style, or themes. My point was just that this is something that happens naturally across all artforms, be they film or literature or music, and it struck me as bizarre that a self-appointed film critic wouldn't understand that.
