Laying aside for the moment that, for all his Roget's approved verbal spinach, Bob's worldview is incredibly, childishly Manichean, he's also revealing how profoundly ignorant he is of the principles of free speech. Simply put: free speech martyrs are often unpleasant people.

For every Times v. Sulivan you've got a bunch more Skokie Nazis, Klansmen, and Larry Flynts, for the simple reason that inoffensive speech or actions most people agree with aren't the ones that need 1st Amendment protections. Who the "good guy" is -- which is obviously subjective at any rate -- is totally irrelevant.

I feel like Bob and co. don't quite understand that you can sympathize with someone or think they're getting a bad rap without agreeing with everything they say or believe. I can say that I think the guy's anti-Semitic views are shitty while still thinking it's massively fucked up that he's getting openly blackmailed by a news agency for making fun of them. I can also say I think sending death threats and harassment to journalists is a terrible thing to do while still acknowledging that those journalists' actions were reprehensible.
