I finished watching Season 2 of Fargo recently, and one of the characters eventually starts confusing movies they see on TV for how the world works. Just thought I'd bring that up.

Bob's shockingly unaware of anything outside of the US, outside of his own preconceived notions. It's stunning, really. For a guy who extols other countries like China for somehow being the key to the Sooperiah Fewtcha, he's very America-centric in his views and doesn't realize how those countries are actually pretty shitty, especially compared to America.

I think the worst part about that is that it's not even hard for Bob to look into European politics, even Wikipedia is an acceptable entry point for getting a flavour for the leanings of most European political parties, anything much deeper gets a bit tricky since it's often in foreign languages but you can often work through that. I find his musings on UK politics the most annoying since all the necessary information is in English and to be honest it's quite straight forward and is arguably the easiest to compare to US politics of all European countries.

For Bob, a fat basement-dweller with buckets of free time it's pretty unacceptable to start going on about other countries politics etc without even doing so much as a 10 minute skim of Wikipedia to get a basic idea of the situation. But rather than admit his ignorance or do even the tiniest bit of research he just starts tweeting away as if he's the most informed man in the universe.

I don't even know what's sadder, the fact that a satire tv series which simplifies interactions and issues to point them out in your face and make fun of them specifically for not much educated people has too many dimensions for Bob, that these characters that act just like Bob are represented by not so bright children, or that he still thinks he's too smart for any of this.
