You know, I have no problem with finding a wildly popular work -- critically or otherwise -- to be insanely overrated. I myself think The Catcher in the Rye is the most overrated novel of the 20th century. (No I'm not going to get into why I think Holden Caulfield is a whining bag of dicks.) This is anecdotal, but my Mom is as much of a moderate as they come, and doesn't really watch superhero movies. She absolutely adores the Nolan movies, to the point where it's probably her favorite film trilogy. For all of his complaining and posturing towards really understanding Batman, deep down he's salty that for a lot of people, the Nolan Batman is the Batman to them, and not just his strawmanned enemies.
