Alice in Wonderland is a "pop-culture melange"?! Which caterpillar is he smoking?
i would say bob is SORT OF right, the two alice books do have many nods to many things that would have been known to a person in that time in that part of the world (I think an old advertising slogan is referenced in the second book) it doesn't stick out, it's worked into the story. even then the cultural references have to share space with puns, mathematical references, and a few nods to carrol's interest in language.

but overall the cultural references are so minor that the book is okay even if you don't know shit about life in england back then.

You know, if Bob wasn't tweeting about how the SUPERIOR FUTURE is in the hands of Silicone Valley, I would have suspected that this is why he is obsessed with Moon Wheat

Why is Bob so fixated on comics he doesn't read and it's clear he has no interest in the characters with how he goes on about the MCU that does not feature anyone from Nu-Marvel (except "Captain Marvel" soon)? Sure, "representation" or whatever but many of those had like under 10,000 copies sent to stories so it's not like anyone was reading them and ending up "empowered". They were only notable for getting in the news a few times because the "shocking" additions that aren't even firsts most of the time, only shitting the bed to the point where EiC got fired.

Hmm... sure you want to keep going down that road of condemnation, Bob?

Also, way to use the "Hitler ate sugar" fallacy, idiot. Given how well we've seen your demonstrated understanding of pop culture, I can just imagine how mangled your history is. (in fact, I've sent it to a history professor friend of mine, let's see if he still talks to me later)

No, my Dad's got the same kind of thing. You can tell by the sticker in the bottom right corner. It's a space heater with some plastic logs.

My parents have the same thing, but the heating element in theirs is invisible. I mean, just image search "Space Heater Fireplace" online and you'll see tons of examples of space heaters without ugly red neon lights in them. Is Bob's heater just something he jerryrigged on his own or did he buy it from Honest Achmed's Ugly Spaceheaters Inc.?

Oh, that explains everything!

...

...wait, this isn't an astronaut fireplace, is it? I hope that wasn't part of Bob's reasoning for buying this.

I thought space heaters were a more universal concept? Like my Dad bought his because our house had really shitty heating and the big open rooms were just cold in the frozen north. Ours is also pretty safe compared to a space heater. We use it as a T.V. stand and keep the DVDs and wargames next to it. So Bob's an idiot. But he gets a free pass this time

"If a cause/belief system is so easily absorbed by the Nazis, it is probably a bad cause/belief system to begin with."
You know which belief system fits the bill? Futurism.

"[Hitler couldn't] make it as an artist because he violently resents modernism and deconstructionism." Now you're taking a fucking movie seriously (see what I mean about him mistaking images as reality?). Back in Hitler's youth when he tried to enroll in art schools, the mainstay of artist training was still classical. The various currents of new art styles that we collectively call "Modernism" nowadays were nascent, fringe movements, and deconstruction won't even be a thing for another 70 years.

"He gets mad at anti-war performance art and fixates on a Nordic fairytale puppet-show for children" -- I won't exactly call Wagner "fairytale puppet-show for children", nor would I call Nietzsche "German pulp-heroism novels".

"space heater"="heater from space" recontext joke.

You know fun fact? I'm a history major. I read a lot of books on WW2. Because I love war games and how it shaped modern history. Very few of them bring up Hitler's fucking occult worship, because it's really just a footnote. Parlor trivia. What they never stop bringing up is how marginalized people in Germany were. Possibly because one is pretty important to the rise of the Nazis and it's not the fucking hobbies

So a bit of news I found out today, looks like Escapist is pretty much dead.

First cracked now this? Not a good time to be an internet media company it seems. If geek.com goes down I say it's a Bob Chipman curse.
