I know kinda late, but I got to think a bit more about Bob's rant about the Simpsons he made like earlier last week. And in conclusion, it shows in my opinion how very little he understands about the Simpsons, what a shallow mess it became and about the writers. Which in turn gives for me quite a bit of insight in how he digests pop culture, which in turn speaks volumes about how smart he really is.
I try to keep some things I concluded out, but here are a few things that came to my mind in snippet form
1. Bob comparing the fact that the Simpsons are managing to go for over 600 episodes and 29 years to be kind of a first to someone assassinating a president. Just retarted and reminiscent of when he compared the significance of the Mario Bros 3 reveal to 9/11or calles BlackPanther the most progressive movie in the decade. Just a sign of Bob wanting to put stuff he likes and connects with emotionally more than he should on a pedastal. A typical sign of unwarranted self importance. He thinks he is important, so the stuff he likes must be important, how can he indicate the stuff he likes is important? By comparing it with historical shit, forgetting that he may come off as delussional or outright insensitive to certain people.
2. Bob calling the Simpsons progressive.
No, not really. I have never heard of the Simpsons changing someones opinion on politics. they were however influential on pop culture and obviously influenced the way other people would then structure the basics of their adult cartoons (see Family Guy). For someone who is oh so smart, Bob does not know when to use the right word. Also, on the risk of being stoned to death, while I would say the Simpsons had a cult following they deserved, overall, the way on HOW popular the show became, it reminds me a bit of what MLP has become. What I want to say? The Simpsons was essentially in the 90s what Friendship is Magic was in the last eight years, when it comes to mastering autists around itself and selling out.
3. Bob still liking the Simpsons = him showing he doesn't watch the show really or understands it.
I think Bob really only jumped on the Apu thing less because he saw it unfold on tv, and more because he heard about it mere hours after someone shittweeted about it. Why? Because for someone who is all about how the Simpsons are progressive and liberal and should be endorsed, he seemingly missed how it also made utter fun of the kind of people Bob represents. There were a lot of episodes within the last two years or so, where they outright mocked Marvel fanboys, SJWs, political correctness, had actually an entire episode based around the idea of judging a person not only on their intelligence but also their ability for kindness (something he would fail) , jumped the gun on making fun of women in gaming and programming, mocked feminists, mocked hipsters and (my favorite as I found out recently) mocked Boston.
As in all of Boston was presented as a place of elitistic liberal assholes, cheaters and brain dead football fans who deserved to be beaten up in the face by Homer and who were only endorsed by Lisa Simpson, who was a raging, shallow cunt in that episode.
4. Him thinking people who work on the show liking Lisa
I am not one of these people who outright hates Lisa Simpson and I think it is okay to like at least her early show incarnation. Mostly because while she was like this "too intelligent for her own good democratic liberal", back then there was a bit of balance to it. Like she fought for causes that were not all that bad if we are honest, she made mistakes, was called out on some of her own bullshit and was still a kid. But she, like a lot of things with the show, got worse over time, because the writing became a shallow parody of what it was in the first 7-9 seasons. Lisa is so shallow, annoying and mean spirited, because the very plots she is writen in are shallow, annoying and mean spirited. And Bob somehow is too blind to see, that the people who write Lisa are essentially tired or just do the most bare inimum effort to write her. As a reuslt, she is not really a character anymore you should aspire to become. Case in point: One episode where a bunch of hipsters move to Springfield. She just likes them because they are "different" and supposedly smarter than the average Homer, but they are also shallow consumers of all sort of trash. Not that she sees it, because she just wants to be around them instead of her own person.
The reason I think he likes Lisa? He says Lisa must be the writers self insert, as she is a young optimistic character who is smarter than her middle class bluecollar family and wants to succed in the creative fields.
No. If she was their self insert, they would treat Lisa better than they do in the show because of fucking writer bias already. As such, she is not their self insert. She is however, based on the description BOB's self insert.
That is why Bob is so pissy that Lisa was used as a puppet to tell the "Problem with Apu" guy to screw himself. Because he feels his self insert was abused.
Well that and Bob thinks he can make money of the "new" controversy by shitting out a few vidoes now where he discusses for an hour how much the Simpsons suck for not embracing the indians.
