So here Bob is using "White" as though it is some sort of ethnic slur. Which "whites" was Bob referring to specifically? Surely not woke hu-wytes such as himself. Surely not the doe-eyed little white girl known as Bob's niece. Can't he use a more specific term like "rednecks" or "bitter clingers" or something that denotes a specific subculture of people of Northern European descent? He just says "whites" as if we have an instant picture in our minds of the kind of folks he's talking about.

Then he goes on to declare that ALL WHITES are culturally obsolete, and that any collective action they might take in their own interest is "racism". Because apparently the world is a Zero-Sum game and in order for some tribes to get ahead, other tribes have to lose. (Yes, that sounds reasonable and not at all a recipe for kicking off a race war...)

Although Bob's flaws as a critic are legion, I'd offer that one of his worst (possibly ranking only behind his atrocious writing) is his total inability to separate art from politics. It might not even be an inability; it might be sheer unwillingness. You only have to spend a short time reading his twitter feed to realize that his brutish and moronic political beliefs are his true passion, not film or video games or anything so desperately plebeian. He sees The Last Jedi as a bludgeon against those he hates -- whoever that might be this week. The targets of Bob's hatred are amazingly varied, because it's the hate itself he thrives on. Hatred, bitterness, envy -- this is the Chipman cocktail, manifesting as an infuriating smugness. TLJ upset longtime fans, who Bob aggregates into a faceless stereotype of white dudebros, therefore it did everything right. Never mind its terrible characters, its mangling of Luke Skywalker and concomitant waste of Mark Hamill's final performance as that character, or its idiot plot. It served what Bob imagines to be a useful political or cultural purpose, therefore it's gold.

I think the most likely explanation is that he was initially interested in media criticism, but as he moved into the online space politics started to creep into things by virtue of the people he ended up hanging out with.

The underlying zealotry's always been there though. That kind of thing doesn't just appear.

All I get from these tweets is that Bob’s jealous that Peterson makes $1 million a year off his schtick and he thinks he’s entitled to that kind of success because he’s so much more enlightened and progressive.

I actually do think Peterson makes a bit too much money in a rather nickel-and-dimey sort of way (charging fans for tests, etc). They're so devoted and protective of him, it comes across as abusing a surrogate fatherhood almost. And generally I dont care for nickel-and-diming people.

But god damn we'd be in a shitty universe if MovieBob was making Peterson money instead. It's like Paul Feig and Ghostbusters (a movie Bob has no issue saying wasnt good and Feig was too lenient with his crew on), right down to the obnoxious politics and overly permissive attitude
