At least Fredo had reasons for the way he was related to his upbringing and his death by the hands of his own brother was a moment of tragedy. in addition he faced death with dignity.

I really have to watch myself when Bob gets going on Lord of the Rings, because if I don't I'm going to have my own infarc or stroke. That said, if you want to know just how totally Bob fails to grasp the larger meaning of the story, why not read what the good Professor himself had to say about his hastily abandoned sequel (called The New Shadow):

Judging from a Puerto Rican I know... the vast majority of territory regarding Puerto Rico doesn't want to be a state, it's largely only the metro areas that do because they get all that financial aid and keep it all to themselves. Meanwhile the rural areas suffer because of their corrupt government and focus on the metro -- along with shitty non-competing trade agreements with the US so their produce isn't sold at its actual value. Basically Puerto Rico is waiting for their own Trump to sever ties with the United States.

fftopic:, but I’ve been reading Hillbilly Elgy lately, which details the author’s experience growing up as part of a white working-class family in Appalachia, and what he describes sounds a lot like the problems that African American communities face. Yet Bob only thinks that the latter group is worth saving and seems to believe that the former is the way that they are by choice. I don’t know whether that’s racist in the sense that it implies that only white people have agency, Bob simply harbors an irrational hatred for them, or both.
