I'm in sort of the same boat. I initially hated the RZ Halloween but now it's more "Okay, if I take this as less a Halloween movie and more a Rob Zombie movie, I can kind of appreciate it". The alternative seems to be that it would have received a soulless Platinum Dunes reboot that would have been strictly formula. RZ's Halloween and its sequel aren't really great movies, but they are unmistakably Rob Zombie movies.
Yeah, it's safe to say that in some form, while there is money to be made, SOMEONE would have made Halloween sequels because generally speaking horror movies have a high return on investment and can reliably fill seats. And Bob and his buddy seems to think that Halloween is some sacred franchise worth saving (no franchise is, but that's beside the point)- it's a series that started with a good original that has some pretty lousy sequels and a few good ones. I like most of the movies in the series, but they're not great movies by any means.
