Come to think of it, Bob's disdain for ordinary, everyday people and hard-on for technological advancement among other things makes him sort of the anti-Tolkein. Which as I've said before, is why I'm genuinely interested in his video series about LOTR if he ever gets around to it, if only to see how he tries to reconcile their antithetical worldviews.

Look up "Why Sauron is the Good Guy" on any search engine and you'll be flooded with articles from "woke" people explaining why orcs are actually a stand-in for Black People and why Elves are a corrupt White aristocratic elite. I'm sure Bob thinks Saruman's attempts to turn Middle Earth into a mechanized, polluted hellhole and make orc/human hybrids means he's a stand-in for the modern day forces of progressive globalization. Hobbits, according to Bob are nothing but the insular, flyover rednecks of their day, standing in the way of Sauron's beautiful vision of a Superior Future where all people are free and mingle together as one in a borderless world. (Even though they're all equally enslaved to a Dark Lord who chains them up and forces them to work in factories.)

I'm curious to see how hit his take will be when how a diverse range of characters (hobbits, humans, dwarfs, elves, a wizard) put aside their differences and unite against Sauron.

Green Book also won for Best Comedy. I’m not gonna lie, since that movie is way more adored than Black Panther with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, I would love it if it wins Best Picture at the Oscars.

If the only reason you like a movie is because of the skin color of the people who star in it, and the only reason you feel it should win an award for Best Picture is because it will "redress historical injustices" even though it's an average film at best, then you have no idea how reality works. You no longer care if the award is serving it's original purpose and only want it to serve YOUR purposes, even though making it do so will completely invalidate it. You will destroy the reputation of the award and force those who WANT to honor the best movies to set up another system to do so. (You can see the end result of this process with the Hugo awards, which recently decided to forgo any attempt to judge work impartially and decided to give asspats and worthless gold rockets to SJW dreck like If You Were a Dinosaur, My Love. )

I blame all of this nonsense on schools' decisions to raise self esteem and give kids participation trophies regardless of their performance. As if NOT giving a kid a trophy when they lose causes them harm somehow. Or as George Carlin says...

His thoughts that noone can be good at Smash might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard from him.

OF COURSE some people are better than others! Any game that isn't totally randomized like dice or the lottery is going to have some element of skill to it. And if there is some element of skill involved then naturally some people will be better than others.

I know he's arguing that the pros aren't playing ""real"" Smash because they play without items, but the only reason they don't play with items is because items add a a lot of luck to the game and high level players want skill to be the determining factor of a game. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't kick ass in Smash if items were on.

I'm willing to bet that people like Leffen, Armada, ZeRo and Mango would still be able to dominate most casual players even if items were allowed. Because they are GOOD AT SMASH.

Finally, isn't implying that a huge number of people are "not playing the REAL Smash" and "playing the game wrong" the same kind of elitist gatekeeping he himself spergs out about all the time?

Regarding his comments on Doom; it really highlights just how America-centric his view of the world truly is. For all his pretentions of being a cosmopolitan globetrotter who understands every culture all his takes are based on extrapolating his views on America onto the rest of the planet.

Console gaming was popular in the United States, therefore console gaming MUST have been popular in evey other country as well. Doom was a popular PC game. PC gaming was bigger than console gaming in my country and many of my neighbouring countries as well. Doom's popularity here had nothing to do with secretly playing it at school.

Lordy lordy lordy. Mortal Kombat is bad because its canned animations and janky, special move inputs are unintuitive. Like you can still play SF2, I tried playing MK Trilogy recently. I used to think the first was the only bad one. But nope. I cannot stress how unintuitive those special moves are. They only work with one button, that doesn't necessarily correspond to the move itself.

And how many schools had computers that could actually run doom when it came out. Almost all the comps at mine were fucking apple IIs till like '97.

My Dads coworkers tell me stories all the time of them playing DOOM after work at his school.
