Surprised he's not bitching about Ryan Coogler not getting a nod. (I know, just wait.) But if you look at the pattern of genre films throughout Oscar history, a situation like this -- oodles of technical nominations, no artistic nominations but Best Picture itself (and Best Score, I suppose) -- usually means the Best Picture nomination is an empty gesture and it has no real chance of winning. (See also: Star Wars, The Fellowship of the Ring.)

I have a feeling Green Book is going to win Best Picture over BP and Roma.

Do Black Panther, Roma, and Blackkklansman have anything going for them aside from "there's black people in it"?

I'm no film buff, but isn't Chariots of Fire a classic film people actually like?

The Oscars should just be honest and have only 2 categories. "Film we want to give an award so we look cultured and progressive" and "Popular film we hate but need to throw a bone to keep even a shred of relevance with the general public".

I heard Green Book isn’t like your typical Oscar bait movie and it actually is a gentle movie that handles racism well and it teaches all people to live with dignity and opening up to other people and relationships. These are two things MovieBlob doesn’t have.

Roma is overrated but its understandable. Blackkklansman is straight up awful though. The Favorite deserves to win best picture and I hope it does, in part to see bob sperg. Its a movie about the queen of england being a lesbo so he can't really go for the "not progressive enough" angle.

Which I guess means all those pacifists, Communists, and Jehovah's Witnesses who died in the death camps had it coming, when you stop to think about it.

Roma will probably because neither blackklansman or BP are “Oscar worthy”. I still have a few movies to see but next in my list are The Favorite and Beal Street (which didn’t get a nom surprisingly).

It’s weird how they chose spike lee’s garbage and cape shit over Beale Street.
