You're right. Social justice is basically rehashed hellfire christianity for blue hairs: privilege is original sin, checking privilege is public repentance, "sins" like blackface and sexual misconduct are ignorable for the greater good, the love of telling you media is problematic vs. sinful, etc. I'm really interested in problematic media vs. sinful media tbh. I remember growing up and Harry Potter was encouraging witchcraft and Pokemon was a satanic scheme because it was short for pocket monsters.

I've been saying this since I got out of the cult ten years ago, and honestly since I've taken up a keen interest in how cults operate, why they do what they do, what their motives and methods are, and how to identify them. Comparing them to '80s moral warriors is giving them far too much credit, and far too much leniency; social justice warriors have more in common with the "Jonestown/Waco/Rajneeshpuram crowd" than they do couch potato boomer fundies that watch televangelists six days of the week, and on Sunday go to church to shake their fists at whatever newfangled thingamajig those young'uns are into this week.

EDIT: Had something else to say, too. If you're gonna compare these people to anything "mainstream" Christianity, compare them to the medieval Catholic church. It's all there: flagellation, inquisition, indulgences, etc.
