The perils of self-publishing include the fact that any book is only as well-edited as the writer is willing to pay for. I doubt Bob thought he needed any editing at all; he's exactly the sort of shitty writer who has a hyperinflated sense of his own ability.

I think that Bob skipping out on his grandma's wake to buy an AC unit is just a larger manifestation of whatever mental issues he may have.
According to his book, Bob regularly made himself emotionally unavailable. Whether it was playing gameboy in his car until everyone was asleep before coming home, or lashing out in school, Bob obviously has issues.

And I would say Bob is no more willing to subject his rarefied, galactic genius thoughts to a lesser being such as a beta reader than he is to an editor. I'd bet he gave the book maybe a couple of line edits to clean up typos and punctuation and then he hit "publish."

Considering his family rushing to his defense when someone made fun of him online, I'm pretty sure it's the second one, or damn close to it. Bob and his brother both insisted that "he can take it" and "he can handle himself" during that whole incident, but I don't think his family really believes that.

This new unifying Bob hypothesis is pretty entertaining even if it is built on pretty thin grounds, but what would the farms be without rampant speculation based on a few grains of information?
Is bob a relatively high functioning autistic manbaby who stopped just short of selling homemade Mario medallions and instead chose to enshrine his undying love for the Italian plumber in a weird, dramatic, autobiographical videogame walkthrough frankenbook. Sheltered by his loving family who understandably give their disabled relatively the room and space to behave in ways that would normally be seen as antisocial and weird, reflexively jumping to his defense when outsiders point out that sitting hunched over your phone dressed in your finest mario blazer in the middle of a wedding is not cool?
Maybe not, but it would explain a lot. I can just imagine him pulling this autistic shit in school, getting bullied for it only to continue doing it on the internet where.. he gets bullied. All the while getting all the emotional support from his family, who assisted him in constructing this smug bulwark of superiority that he hides behind to avoid facing his failings.
