I feel like the person who told that story conflated what Bob actually told him with Bob's explanation of why people love Nintendo from one of his earliest Game Overthinker episodes.
In the episode Bob says something along the lines of
"Imagine you suddenly find yourself on your childhood street. You see your childhood home just like you remember it from when you were little. You go into the backyard and your old swingset is there and everything. Then you hear something barking and you can't believe your eyes! It's your old dog! He's still alive and just as happy to see you as ever!
And just when everything seems perfect you hear sounds of an evil, barbaric hoard approaching on the horizon. You realize that the hoard embodies everything that is evil, wrong and cruel in the world and that they are going to burn down and destroy everything they come in contact with and they're heading straight towards your house!
Then you hear a rustling in the bushes and a funny looking Japanese man pops out and tells you he can keep the hoard at bay and preserve your childhood home just as it is now. Keep it in a perpetual state of perfectness. If you only pay him a small fee.
That is what it's like to be a Nintendo fan."
I feel like Bob either based that monologue on a dream he had. Or the guy on Bechtloff's stream was bullshitting or misremembering and confused what Bob actually told him with what he said in the Game Overthinker video.
I will see if I can find the video. It was one of the earliest episodes. Probably one of the ten first.
EDIT: Here's the video. It was from episode 7.
