Miyazaki and Hideo have a good friendship. It’s actually not out of the realm of possibility that Gendo and the tape player aspects of NGE were inspired from him, but not as some deep dig. NGE definitely isn’t and wasn’t meant to be his escape feel good animation feature.
What I’m saying is Bob’s full of shit. Anime working conditions are horrible though. Even among animation, anime is a low paying, terrible grind.

EDIT:
essentially ninja'd by @Chan the Wizard

To be fair to Bob (🤢), there's this Kotaku article from 2016 that talks about how overworked Ghibli's animators are and how stressful the environment is.
I couldn't find the Evangelion quote he refers to, though I did learn Anno suffered from clinical depression and that influenced Evangelion's story. Also, he evidently didn't care about Rei.
The anime industry as a whole is terrible to work in: Tight deadlines, no money, and like the article says “There’s a sense that everyone is replaceable—even (Hayao) Miyazaki.”. I kinda get the feeling that that's pretty much the case with a lot of Japanese industries but possibly worse with anime as nobody besides weeaboos, even in glorious Nippon, respects anime and views it as disposable. As far as Anno, he had suffered from depression long before NGE. Working on it and dealing with the weebs during production just made things worse. Bob is just dumb trying to make a big brained take. The only way it would've been better is if he ended it with some form of "let that sink in".

Also, @Rei is shit is not just a clever user name but a deep truth.

If memory serves, Evangelion was the disaster and Gurren Lagann was the pick-me-up. Bob, again, fucks up basic causality because he can't be bothered to get his facts straight.

Robert likes to pick pieces and bits from interviews or word of mouth buzz to make his own headcanon about behind the scenes creations and shit. And yes, i get the joke, that working for Miyazaki is so bad that making a show about a eternal sad boy who jerks off to comatose girls is better. "har har har, you so witty Robert, please fuck my asian pussy."

And don't know much about Hideki Anno, but didn't the guy went throught a full blown depression while making Evangelion, so much so that during the later episode productions, he pretty much made it unbearably bleak and bordeline nonsensical? I mean, that's the "lore" behind the show right?

I dunno, I get it that a lot of people it's trendy to hate on Evangelion to piss off the "too smart for you" weebs, but regardless, I just fucking hate Evangelion.

And about Miyazaki, I have one of those "a friend of a friend of mine told me " stories that she worked as a inbetweener for "the Wind Rises", and while she was there, she talked to some of the veterans from Ghibli studios, and they said that Miyazaki ain't so bad to work with if you follow one simple rule, just do what he wants.

Miyazaki writes and Storyboards his movies alone... no shit, you can buy entire tomes of storyboard he did by himself (I have two, Laputa and Kiki) and on his productions, you HAVE to follow the boards 1:1, not just animations, but compositions and all, like this:

Comparacao-Entre-os-Storyboards-de-Miyazaki-A-Esquerda-e-a-Animacao-Final-a.png

And that would be ok in a TV series, when time is of essence, and there is little space for creativity or craft, you just need to shit out what is on the board. But in a feature movie, when you need to spend months on a couple of minutes worth of animations, and having little to no space to express any sort of creativity? Yeah, that is hell for a lot of animators.

So this is probably the main reason on why so many animators leave Ghibli frustrated and bitter. Sure, most likely Miyazaki ain't a peach to work with, after each of his movies, he locks himself from the world for a year or so, the man has issues, but if you wanna go work for him, you need to understand that it is his show, and his alone.

I don't even think that is a flaw in the scope of Marvel movies. The first Iron Man has Tony using his suit to take out some Al Qaeda guys engaging in slavery. Lots of Marvel Movies feature heroes going in and taking out terrorists before the real plot and villain kick in. Avengers straight up killing terrorists and criminals seems pretty common for them. Calling Hawkeye out for going off the grid and doing what they were usually doing would seem weird in that context.

Also have some Bob Election Sperging:

Is this recent? Is he still pushing that boulder?

Walls are not racist Bob. They are walls.

HRC broke the law. If she was some low level politician she would have been bent over. She still might be by the way. She is currently trying to avoid being deposed by Judicial Watch on matters relating to her server.

"No, Child."

From a dude who made videos on gamergate over and over.

Also, this guy really hates the working class. You would think breadtube and the like would talk about this greasy ball of consumerism nonstop.

He hates the working class because he cannot be the working class. He is a buffoon. His post internet future involves a shovel or greeting people at Walmart.

R3tard from Revere sticks head up his own ass through the power of casual racism, film at 11.

Two words for a billion dollar idea fam: Anime Gepetto! Shockingly, I can find no evidence for Bob's dipshit claim about Evangelion being Anno's chance to mellow out.

Once you've seen one Asian man you've seen them all, even if they're animated.

Always a joy when Bob outs himself as the racist we all know he is and it happens so frequently!

The stuff with EVA kinda goes all over the place. Apparently Anno did have some mental issues, not just depression, but all that shit was going during the show's development as you had the fan involvement that went to borderline death threats, you had the show going over budget and there's also the factoid of them shoving all the religious stuff just because it looked cool, plus there were also talks that Anno didn't really know where he was gonna take EVA or if he even had an actual endgame for it.

The funniest aspect of all this is that Miyazaki is Bob's literal perfect real life example of "The artist should have 100% creative control". He is just too stupid to understand that this is what happens when you give one artist complete control of production.

The word has become totally and completely debased when drooling from Bob's idiot hole.
you could take the last six words from that sentence and it'd still be true
it's probably no coincidence how it's only people in Anglophone countries (i.e. never occupied during WW2) who gratuitously abuse the term Nazi without getting called out for it, because they never had elderly relatives who lived through the hell of Nazi occupation

As far as I know, Anno and Miyazaki had somewhat of a contentious relationship when they first worked together (because Miyazaki was Anno's boss lol) but Bob is mostly wrong here.

Anno started out doing keyframes for Nausicaa (the first proper movie Miyazaki directed) and he was quite talented to the point where Miyazaki trusted him with the hardest scenes to illustrate in the entire film. After Nausicaa, he goes on to found Gainax (the studio behind Evangelion) with some other animators because they want more creative freedom. They get it, with the expiremental OVA Gunbuster, but then they're ironically contracted to adapt one of Miyazaki's idea's- Nadia: The Secret of The Blue Water- to TV, with Anno at the helm.

At some point during the making of Nadia, Anno cracked psychologically and that's what lead to Evangelion. He just entered a deep depression because of his prior mental issues, being in such a strict industry and the stress that comes with it, etc. Miyazaki kind of sort of indirectly maybe had a hand in it, if that's how you read that. Evangelion's characters are more based on elements of the human psyche than anything else (Anno talks about the ego, the id and other psychological shit in interviews), so I don't think Miyazaki is Gendo or anything like that.

Anno and Miyazaki are actually on such decent terms now that Miyazaki actually hired Anno to do the voice of the main character in his most recent and personal film (if I recall correctly) The Wind Rises, and they've sat down for multiple interviews.

Explains why it was so bad.

>and he punches an evil clown that dorks on 8chan think says meaningful things about mental health
It's never going to stop being hilarious how assmad they got over Joker. For such an otherwise medicore movie to elicit this much anger from the twitterati because it delivered their message to the wrong people will only get funnier as the years drag on.

Going autistic and off topic but the Eva death threats didn’t occur until the ending. Evangelion didn’t have a fully thought out plot which is why the manga and the later movies all have different plots. Tldr Anno got depressed, they ran out of money for the final two episodes, so they put out a mostly stationary final two episodes with mostly voice overs explaining what’s going on. Japanese weebs freak out and send him death threats and hate mail. Those death threats and hate mail then get shown in one of the do over movies that replaced the ending.

To bring it back around, no, at no point did he link it to Miyazaki. Other than Gendo has a passing resemblance and Anno had a tapeplayer that Miyazaki stole. They still get along really well, there’s no lasting animosity. They seem to greatly respect each other. Bob is fat and dying alone without even a waifu.

Also speaks to Bob's cluelessness on the site status and current events.
