You know, his disdain for his career field, coupled with his begging and his generally unkempt appearance lead me to beleive he CAN'T go back to consulting; as in he isn't well regarded in his field and people dont want to work with him.

I work with structural and construction engineers, and I can only think of one that isn't a stick-up-his-ass tightwad with a high and tight haircut and meticulously polished shoes. Being easy to work with or well liked doesnt get you as far in engineering as it does in other professions. That he cant even figure out HOW to deal with his kids meds tells me he probably isnt that great at engineering mechanical shit, either.

There might be a political factor at play, too. Different professions attract different personality types, and this also affects political leanings; engineers tend to be pretty conservative, presumably because reality has no tolerance for failure and if a bridge or a plane engine fails, people could die. A number of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists have historically been engineers. My Dad was an automotive engineer and he was pretty much as you described, stick up his ass who had no idea how to handle people. He could calculate the exact speed when a cars fuel efficiency would start to go down due to its body shape but could never deal with idiot bosses and co-workers in a healthy manner. Chris might be the same way, put him in front of a malfunctioning stamp press and he will figure out exactly how to fix and improve efficiency on it, but force him to make small talk with co-workers or raise his kids and he will fall flat on his feet because you can't mathematically calculate a solution to the problem which leaves him looking like a fool. For a while I thought Chris was at least somewhat decent at the whole life thing, with a real degree, a wife, a kid, and a house.
But you know, the house is a mess even after alleged deep cleaning, the wife is a whale, the kid is a tard, and the christmas lights are still out.
He has a real degree and could have a normal life, but no, he wants to do his little Internet show and not have a real job, so now his family has to suffer for it. See, all of this talk about Chris's career makes me wonder, we've always assumed that since he has an engineering degree Chris got a proper education, but do we actually know where he studied? From experience, there's a world of difference between an engineering degree from a proper university and one from a community college. Hell, in spite of what companies and teachers say, where you studied plays a huge part in who will hire you.

I hesitate to say that he puts imagination into it because his beliefs about Republicans are the same 2005-era takes that every other DNC-fellating blue checkmark currently has. Well the progressive stuff was a given, the university itself looks like a standard small inner city university. I'd say Chris likely graduated, engineering degrees like his aren't as complicated as they're cracked up to be. A good understanding of algebra and physics, along with a decent work ethic is all you need. And I can say from experience that many engineering students aren't the brainiest bunch, they just know how to do long maths equations and I'd go as far as to say that most are downright ignorant of anything outside of engineering.
