I disagree as while Chris is a dumbass he still is smart enough to be an engineer, afford to rent a home, and still raise a family. Bob is probably still the dumbest one for his delusions of grandeur and acting like his intelligence will make his success for him without putting any hardwork while Chris probably did put some hardwork and is really a boomer in spirit who overinflates his brother's success (which I have a feeling was caused by Bob's ego when bragging about his job).
Let's not forget that there are engineers and "engineers". It's the 20/80 rule where 20% of people who can make products/meet goals/generate wealth support the other 80% who went through X number of years of a Diploma Mill, got a piece of paper and scream "I fucking LOVE science".
The best engineer I have ever worked with went to a trade school at 16, had 2 years of experience AND then went for 5 years of mechanical engineering. He could be the back-up of every single technician we had on staff despite being in a white collar position.
The worst? A guy so insecure about his intelligence that he had to type 20 page reports and mile long emails with unnecessary information just to make himself sound smarter (and when push came to shove he couldn't answer a yes/no question).
College is a system, the moment you learn to adapt to the system you can pass. You don't devour 50 manuals worth of information and ace a test with all the knowledge you have acquired; instead you carefully select what was talked about in class, what the seniors know about the course and compile the information of previous years exams to find a pattern. After that, you crunch the numbers on how much extra credits you have accrued and select which chapters you can digest and which are not time/cost effective. Rinse and repeat for 5 years + a project that you may or may not need to pay for. That's how you get an oversaturated market of STEM graduates that think a degree in Theoretical Math somehow warrants them a 6 figure salary.
My point is that Chris has confused the means with the end. His fat-addled, white-trash brain absorbed all the 80's tropes and by process of elimination he associated himself with a "Nerd". "I'm a nerd, therefore I have to study nerd stuff!" the fat fuck thought.
"I'll be an engineer!"
"a what engineer?"
"I don't know....I love science! I'll do sciency stuff, just like Egon in the Ghostbusters!"
Let's de-mystify the STEM careers, for the love of god. Chris Chipman has a piece of paper that qualifies him for looking at an excel spreadsheet about an X number of topics. That's it. He's not designing efficient machinery, he's not crunching over how to salvage overbudgeted and understaffed projects, he's not even jury rigging pieces or doing Q&A testing. He's a fat fuck with a do-nothing position that he got because the economy was good.....and there's hundreds of thousands like him right now as the economy is tanking.
