I think Bob is literally too lazy to even play games anymore. It's much easier chasing the dopamine hits he gets from shitposting on twitter. He has a weird obsession with Mario in particular but he never really struck me as a true lover of video games honestly. Like I don't imagine him playing any of the classics like DOOM or Symphony of the Night. Even his book indicated it took him like weeks or months or something ridiculous like that simply to beat Super Mario Bros 3.

See Bob likes to imagine himself as a nerd/geek because the movies taught him that being a nerd/geek means you must be smart. So he talks about stereotypically geeky topics like video games or comics. But his expertise on such topics come across like someone who just read a wikipedia entry on the subject instead of actually experiencing it for himself. Remember this is the same guy who decided he had to tell the whole world that hating the Mass Effect 3 ending makes them an entitled shitlord despite the fact he couldn't even be bothered to so much as YouTube it.

I believe he only stays informed enough on current game culture to fart out a luke warm take every once and a while. As far as proper analysis idk if he has ever done that. I have only ever gotten the impression that Bob has no actual critiquing skills and he just projects whatever he wants onto whatever is in front of him. All of his analysis is either targeted at incredibly shallow shit you could derive whatever meaning you want out of it or ideologically approved crap that doesn't require him to do anything but tow the line. Modern youtube gaming content has long since outpaced any original thoughts Bob could bring to the table, and he is just barely able to keep his head above water in the world of movie commentary.

I think all he does is parrot things he's heard. When Spiderman came out, he said he was going to play it until he heard there were "Ubisoft towers" and declared that that meant the game was unplayable, when he clearly had no intention of playing it since I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a ps4.

I actually didn't mind the little minigame to unlock the map, I actually got the trophy to get all of them before the end of Act 1.
