The problem with Elitist leadership comes from their utter detachment from regular people. People don't actually mind real tyranny if their government allows for economic freedom (Singapore), but our current Neocon/neoliberal leadership have absolutely no regard for what regular people actually need plus they do think they're so much smarter than the rest of us. It's true of Silicon Valley elites all the way down to dispossessed intellectuals like Sam Harris; they're noblemen and think less of serfs just because. You have a better chance at getting something good out of a populist movement than an elitist movement just because as a member of the masses the chances are better you'll get something out of it than a smaller group of elites. Take free college for example, if college becomes free to all it would most likely suck and drive down the value of college degrees even further, resulting in lowered wages and increased competition. At the same time free college could help a poor person get a good paying job if they study the right material and meet the right people. You could also take the money you would have originally invested in your kids college education, assuming you weren't getting completely assfucked by taxes, and buy a home in a good school district or put your kids in a private school, giving them a better educational foundation. Better chance overall you'll get something good out of a movement that's fighting for more people than a movement that's fighting for a few people.
Yeah. The thing with populism is it doesn't come with a ”no mayo ghouls” disclaimer, and that's why Bob opposes genuinely populist things like universal healthcare - white people from Alabama might get to use them, and Bob couldn't tolerate them being given human rights.
