You guys are slipping, somebody better at this than me should've screenshot the big thread where he talks about the MCU being the world's newest gods. Hopefully it doesn't go anywhere when the whole thing gets screenshot. It and the replies are peak Bob.

Didn't Iron Man and Captain America destroy a fucking airport and cause an international incident over Cap harboring KGB Red Hood? Didn't Iron Man basically kidnap a child to fight in said airport battle?

Why is he trying to compare comic book man, someone who doesn't exist, to a real state that exists in reality? It should go without saying that yes, fictional people are only going to do the good things because they are fictional. It doesn't need to be said but it just makes me question if Bob is even living in reality. Does he not understand that movies don't represent reality and that there is rarely anything that is truly black and white like every marvel movie ever? The "New Gods" thing is almost like a self dunk, doesn't even deserve a response. He really is CWC with a thesaurus. He could turn even the most rock solid humanist into a misanthrope.

I have some time to waste, here is the full diatribe:

Again, what I love the most is that Robert always, in the end, need to put a caveat like : "ONCE AGAIN: I'm not saying this is a GOOD THING! I'm just saying... this IS" just so he can keep his poisure, and not to be taken as just another sheep. No, you see, the OTHERS are the ones who are taking these Marvel movies as a quasi religious experience, not me.

This is obviously utter horseshit, and as it was said before, Robert exacerbates the importance of these Marvel capeshit to a ridiculous degree, the foreigner audiences are very much aware that these movies are North American, with North American values and principles, and the reason on why they play well anywhere is because of production values and they are easy to consume, as these Capeshit movies are just a modern take to the set-piece centered action movies from the late 80's and 90's, as in, you don't need to pay atention to the story, just go watch things go boom.

Also, since the early days of the big hollywood system, American Movies were always a globalized market because movies take a lot of money and equipment to make them, and while it is true that Europe, South America, Japan, etc, did have their own movie productions, the masses were consuming Hollywood products, and guys like Clark Gable and Bogart were stars in the entire world, so much that in the 50's and 60's fading American stars went to Europe to have second careers.

And about the whole Iron Man Jesus shit is just Robert going "Have you ever heard of Hyperbole champ? :smug:", the thing is, this retard really thinks people have a religious devotion to this capeshit bullshit because he once saw a crowd of idiots going apeshit in a Comic Con when fucking Natalie Portman held a platic hammer prop in a stage, and looks like Robert can't grasp how disposable these movies are.

And I get the feeling that Robert doesn't want to face it, because it would show that he is also very, VERY disposable, because aside from his political sperg, Robert doesn't have much of a personality to speak of.

Oh he changed his mind, never mind guys!

Except this is extreme horseshit. If trump was still around, Robert would be a hardcore anti-vaxxer.

That is the issue with playing team politics, you play the same game, but you don't have to take account principles if you it is your side doing it.

That's why everybody hates politics, and why people like Robert are detestable.

So, he gets to be wrong and work his way forward, but Joe Rogan doesn't because reasons?

Makes sense.

They're not gods, they're supposed to be aspirational role models that young people can be inspired by.
That's how you sell kids toys. You make material tools for their imaginations. You make them shows and games. Media.
Heroes are more marketable than police officers, and city folk don't really have cowboy fantasies anymore.
Cowboys no longer get into duels outside the saloon in real life. The wild west? That era is over.
Police shows have been done to death and they're not seen in the same light as they used to be. The police themselves are seen as institutionally imperfect to say the least.
Superheroes have stuck around because they have more variety than cowboys and cops. They can be almost anything.

Who is worshiping Hollywood superheroes? The whole fantasy is being the character. As in, if you're the character you're cooler than you are in real life.
Horatio Hornblower, Doc Savage, James Bond. Everybody knows what i'm talking about. The hero of always.
Being a super hero in particular means you don't have to go to your 9 to 5 anymore, or maybe that's just the cover for your secret hero status.
What kind of kid doesn't want to be Batman? Someone who doesn't want to be smart, strong, handsome, rich, and trained in ninja techniques? That sounds like what every kid dreamed about on the playground when i was growing up. If not Batman they wanted to be Superman or Spider-man because they had powers unlike Batman. It was like preferring Skittles to M&Ms, a matter of mood or taste. But who is worshiping Batman or Superman?

The point is, when you're a kid you want to be a cowboy gunning down outlaws so you buy the cap gun and the hat and bandana.
The point is you want to be a police officer chasing down the bad guys who robbed the bank so you get the nerf gun and chase your friends around the house.
The point is you want to be Iron-Man so you get the mask and the gauntlet and you imagine you're flying around the backyard with your brother and sisters.

To further this idea and relate it to the whole cop thing, in the 1970s and 80s a lot of people wanted to clean up the grimy cities that were decaying in a real way. That led to a lot of fictional stories about vigilantes doing what a lot of people wanted to do in the streets. The dark age of comics and a lot of gritty films came out of this. Taxi Driver, Death Wish, Dirty Harry, even Watchmen had this stock character of a vigilante or rogue cop that represented what the noir detective used to be for the time period.

Its being the hero Bob, not worshiping the hero. You're thinking of celebrities, which Hollywood has been making for the last 100 years.

Even simpler, the "Real" Iron Man, isn't,

They are FICTIONAL

They DO NOT EXIST

The reason they don't do "bad things" in your progressive eyes is because their highly-politicized authors won't put them in situations where they CAN.

This is why Mary Sues and Gary Stus give fiction (canon and fanon) a bad reputation.

Yes, Mary Sues and Gary Stus are basically cash cow characters, made to make creators rich, not because they want to tell an interesting story. Because wish fulfillment power fantasies are marketable, while at the same time, they set up impressionable, child like people up for failure in disappointment in life.

Sad but true.

Wow, who could predict an R-rated sequel to a fucking awful movie that already had an R-rated sequel that failed wouldn't fly.

I am shocked. SHOCKED!
You mean getting the guy who made Guardians of the Galaxy to make a similar movie didn't result in immediate box office success? I for one am shocked.

This would be hilarious if it leads Disney to use this as an example of why Gunn has to do everything their way and he loses almost all power when making Guardians 3. When that comes out, who would Bob side with?

"Where is your messiah now?"

But for real, I think GotG 1 was a lightning in a bottle thing. Gunn has some talent but it helps a bit when he's reined in. Just like good writers have good editors...

What I love about these is the "I say that with no judgment to whether it's "good" or not - they won.". yeah, right Robert, you ain't a cheerleading sheep for the big mouse, then why you jump like a bitch whenever someones mentions "Marvel fatigue"?

We saw that old post of his about wanting comic book movies and geek culture to choke everything out until it becomes the only culture.

Bob always acts like he's not a Chris-Chan like figure, and everything he's ever said online isn't documented.

And what really chaps my ass is that the MCU isnt even "geek culture" its just normie culture wearing at best geek clothes and at worst geek "blackface"

I disagree. I really enjoyed The Suicide Squad for what it is, a Superhero Dirty Dozen and I think DC values that it's getting prestige back.

It's now just WB and Disney that are direct competitors for mainstream audiences. And DC was given a major blessing that Disney temporarily fired James Gunn and it really seems like Taika Waititi will be interested in going to DC as well after Thor Feminist edition.

If Disney loses Gunn and Taika it will be a tremendous blow to them as they're the two creative talents that can work in the Disney sweatshop and pull off some good popcorn entertainment. I know a lot of people say Capeshit is Capeshit but just compare either Guardians movies or Thor 3 to a total mess like Black Widow.

Are you surprised, considering this is the same person who said 2020 was "a year without heroes"?

If MCU were "unmoored from national identities and political persuasions" then why did people thought that Black Panther was really about black empowerment? And why did people act as if the real-life death of that actor were a national tragedy?

As for superheroes don't do bad things. I've read that the Brie Larson character does do some questionable, dishonorable things, and her cat blinded Nick Fury in one eye.
