Roblox Community General Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Ro-Coomers are getting out of control.
The guy that made this has over 200 similar images he's created using Roblox Studio.
Most of these Roblox pornographers share work with each other in Roblox related Discord servers with nsfw channels, which for some reason the company is okay with being directly linked on any game or group's page, despite half of all Roblox users being under 13. Something tells me if Roblox actually moderated people for this shit there'd be a lot less Roblox porn in existence.
I've heard of Roblox servers where people throw the hard R around casually but I never really poked around for NSFW channels, since I just like playing some of the games on the platform. Now that you mention it: Black Magic Unleashed has a channel named NSFW 18+ if you're using that one Discord extension that lets you look at hidden channels (but not access them).

I'm honestly confused why it takes some devs all of their willpower to not create pornographic chat rooms in the family-friendly game server. What's worse is that BMU's original server had a NSFW channel you could publicly access right off the bat. Powering imagination, huh.

I feel obliged to mention PVE-based games that have poor enemy design are quite the spectacle as well. Dungeon Quest is a really big offender of this since most of the enemies have rather basic AI. Now, compare the humanoids that walk in a straight line towards you to a few other examples from games that were either made before or after it. Generally, I just play PVP games since that would (obviously) take advantage of the multiplayer aspect of the platform. That does, however, remind me of the mess that is Catalog Heaven.

Catalog Heaven used to be one of my favorite games on the platform because of the sheer unpredictability and novelty of gear. There were already hundreds of gear that did batshit insane shit ranging from a glass vial that turns anyone you throw it at into a pile of goo after a few seconds or a sledgehammer that can fling people hundreds of meters on hit. The game would have a meta that shifted a buttload and, as gears are no longer updated, hasn't changed in a year.

In its current state, the avatar customization is actually worse than Robloxian Highschool of all things since it hasn't updated in a while either. More importantly, though, the sheer unpredictability of gear and Seranok not bothering to fix anything has lead to some crazyass shit happening within the confines of CH's community. Namely, bots that automatically crash servers, which has lead to some very surreal screencaps of CH at double digit playercounts for like 15+ minutes at a time (like the one below).

Most gears are broken and the gamepass' bonuses have not been updated in quite a while. Where it stands, the items in the banned VIP category ($50 btw) are worse off than most of the items that you can get for free, since they were updated based on the meta at the time. The balance back then was vastly different than what it is now; compare one-hit kill melees to weapons that automatically negate flight within 300 studs, deploy reflector shields that automatically heal you, and create black holes that stop all projectiles and guarantee players instantly die within 75 studs of you. Now, I might need to remind you that you must pay $50 for the one-hit kill knife and 40 other weapons like it, most of them being broken and unusable.

The year is 20xx and everyone uses bugged gear items to infinitely accelerate upwards at 200 studs/s^2, instakill anyone within 125 studs of themselves and... that's about it. Sometimes they don't use the instakill death explosion laser and opt to run into eachother with instant freeze AoE weapons. I think it's kinda boring, I don't know.

Currently I just play Catalog Gear Place, which manually updates its gears or revamps existing ones. Same thing as old CH with the gear updates that used to happen once in a while, except that the geardevs that were laid off their job have some of their unreleased stuff get put into the game.
If you want a similar experience, Check out Infinite Welfare. Sadly the game is kinda dead.

As a guy who played the game since I was a kid and shamefully stuck with it longer than I should have, I feel like I need to emphasize how Roblox struggles to grapple with how the website changed over the years.

Back then the game was just a more customizable Club Penguin, there is an emphasis on the social aspect of the game, and not necessarily the game itself. Admittedly, there is a charm to that, and a vast amount of people considers it the golden age of Roblox. Regardless, even if it is a golden age, it wasn't really all that great, the community was basically filled with either people who aren't that dedicated and just fuck around to play for a few minutes, and the games that were on there were utterly basic, there were barely anyone who dedicated to make a proper polished game on the website. In terms of Drama, I feel like the community were much more united as most controversy revolved entirely on the incompetence of the company, since the website just kept being associated with scams, dishonest advertising and terrible moderation because of how inept Roblox was.

I think when the website became somewhat profitable for the developer, it caused a dramatic change on the website to the point it's unrecognizable to its humble beginnings.

First, the social aspect of the game is getting killed off, whether this is a good thing is up for debate. It became less important to have a good-looking avatar; back then you could play for a few days and make enough money from daily logins to buy clothing. However, several updates occurred where there is no way a new player could get a non-default avatar without paying real money, after Roblox removed daily login rewards. That alone completely changed the landscape of what the game became. It wasn't a big loss since most games don't really have the player appearance be a major factor in games, hell, some omit that by using dev decided custom character models, and if the appearance of the player was an important aspect of the game the devs probably has a system to allow customization in the game anyway. More importantly, I suspect it's because of this that the average Roblox avatar became way uglier, due to the fact items can't be earned and people don't have any reason to think about their purchase when they do buy the in game currency directly. There has been a noticeable increase in degenerate looking and over designed avatars, and it adds to the chaotic look of the environment of Roblox.

Second, Roblox began relying on their Devs completely to turn a profit. Last time I checked, I think Roblox basically exploits their devs from their profit, and as a result the more successful devs rely on producing repetitive generic and trendy games to earn money through hyper-monetization. If you ever wonder how something like Minecraft servers would look like without their EULA, Roblox is what it would have been. The games that occasionally swarm the front page are kinda like when there were thousands of flappy bird clones on the app store. One might think that giving content creators financial incentive to make games on their platform would make them take the game seriously, and it somewhat does, but that only marginally increased that while people who wouldn't have developed to begin with if not for the financial incentive basically took over the market. As a result, there is significantly more crap, while good games don't proportionally increase. In contrast to how restrictive it so for players to customize, in exchange Roblox gave more freedom to the devs. The game these days may look more appealing to the developers than the players.

Third, the company, from what I've seen, is trying to rework the website to not be a game platform but some kind of meta-verse, meaning that it's not a website for "games" but for "experiences". This point especially weirded me out when I logged in recently when the website just refuses to describe any of the games on the platform as "games". In other words, they are trying to make the website a more expansive Second Life; more specifically, it's a website that houses several Second Life, and compete with lifestyle games like VR Chat. These are massive changes in direction of the website, now a kid's entire free time can revolve around a single game on Roblox, rather than trying out and playing multiple games and moving on to others when they get bored. As a consequence, there is a bunch of niche sub communities that pops up ranging from UN Role Plays to Roblox Infowars, and the people on there are dead serious about how they spend time on the website. This is why there is so many weirdos being born from the social culture they inhabit. Compared to classic Roblox, the controversy of the website shifted from being centralized to the company to towards the community it houses, but even then the company seemingly is always in hot water.

All together, Roblox went from an autistic lego game, to a massively popular yet equally autistic lego game. Even as a guy who probably spent more time than normal on the website as a kid, it's kinda hard to root for the game, mainly because its current state is nothing like I grew up with. That's how most people see Roblox, the perception of people who played it as a kid does not accurately reflect what it is now. The website lost the interest from the older players back in the day because of these changes, which is why I think Roblox won't be ever remembered fondly, just like how Minecraft had a nostalgia driven resurgence last year.

It's a platform that relies on children feeding into its economy, and I can't imagine an older audience ever jumping in. To its credit, compared to something like Scratch, it's a pretty fine way of learning game development for a kid, although as soon as they want to do something worthwhile they will move onto a better game engine. Regardless, it's unlikely that Roblox will shed its infamy in the near future, and that will continue to hurt the reputation of the company and the community.

Yeah, this is a bit of a serious post, but I conjecture this is the reason why Roblox ended up like this virtual shithole.

This whole brand shift is also the reason they made their logo no longer red and probably why they just made it a shittier bethesda logo. They somehow believe by making their site look generically more business oriented it'll attract more businesses or something.

Edit: I'll add that since launching their stock it hasn't even risen more than 20% in value, and that was months ago. They gained users through the lockdowns but I don't think they retained them, or their growth has pretty much capped now. When they were private it was easier to trick investors but I don't know about now.

I've played IW before. I really like it having a kind of pseudo-progression where you can get as many weapons as you can in a life and it's a matter of how well you use them.

I do know that everyone in IW's/OTF's server's community hates the hell out of the the main dev (Lagio) after some guy was banned, to the point where they made a separate community for it the server so they don't have him in it.
I still play a bunch of the games on there. Roblox, as a platform, has a few game concepts that I don't think I've seen on other platforms. I could boot up Steam and play something like Terraria for an RPG experience or TF2 to blow up other people, but I don't think either come close to batshit insane stuff like the gear fighting community. Roblox has less of a concentration of good games since devs know that they can bank in through appealing to young peeps, but there exists a few devs that stick around and just make cool games for the hell of it.

I've played on the site from a young age and gotten a few of my friends into it. We haven't let go of it since. I come back to PvP games like Project Submus Accudo, Black Magic Genesis, and (rarely) Rogue Lineage.

I don't think I've ever seen stuff like this before in any of the communities I've seen on the site. Jesus christ.

Really good summary. I too stuck with this damn game longer than I should have.

I want to shed more light on the "metaverse" aspect though. Roblox's hand was semi forced.
They can't call themselves a games platform as that would put them in direct competition with the app stores that host them (Apple, Google Play etc.) and would get them yeeted.

I don't know if this is necro'ing but you're all probably familiar with Ruben Sim and all of his accounts were banned recently, because Roblox gave him VC and while talking he and a bunch of other devs swore. The devs haven't been banned. I think Ruben is being a little bit of a crybaby and it's time for him to jump ship, but here's someone getting high to celebrate... And also crying about getting swatted.

Neat, thank you.

I'd like to add for those that who may not know Ruben, he's a Roblox Youtuber with a decent following. This new deletion wave of his accounts probably won't stop him seeing as they've IP banned him before. Apparently he's been making games on ROBLOX since he was a kid, but as he aged he's been a controversial figure due to his criticisms of the moderation. Mods like NobleDragon, who Ben called out for following a furry porn account on his work Twitter, have banned Ruben's accounts over the span of years much to Ben's amusement.

Ruben's also had issues with making and promoting his games, he and his team spent the equivalent of $100 in "ROBUX" to promote a game they could profit from, only for it to get rejected and they had to go through customer support hell. Whether Ben should've jumped ship is kinda beyond the point when the guy supports a game's economy, but then is shut down because he upset the mods feewings.

I watch his videos just to see how the game is now, because like you guys I have fond memories of it from when I was a kid. Some people can make cool stuff with it, but imo, it should just be a springboard for them to jump off before entering real development.

That's one of the reason you don't see good games on Roblox, just profitable ones. If people are capable of making good games they will move onto a platform with an audience that will appreciate them better.

There's still good games on Roblox. You just have to search for them, and Roblox is making them increasingly harder to find as they continue to push users towards more profitable ones. You used to be able to search for games by genre, most recently updated, or recently played by your friends. Roblox removed all of this so they could specifically tailor the games page to each user based on all of the profiling/data farming they do on them.

The amount of furfag mods on Roblox probably numbers in the thousands nowadays. It's absolutely insane how much grooming could be going on, other than the obvious. It's worse than Discord at this point because Roblox is meant to be a platform mostly for children at it's face. And the fact they allow links to any social media now despite acting like they're coppa compliant.

Can testify to this, though I’m used to it. Even before they started removing useful pages for finding places, anything decent to play I’ve found through friends, found through games I already like, or it was an accidental find*. If you’re willing to poke your way around, the Games tab is pretty moot.
In a friend circle, we’ve found shit we still play by plugging in random horror-related words.
