I'm pretty upset the fact I'm probably going to have to start rapping to troll Roy.

He's a faggot when he orders 20 tacos he says baggit.... ok my freestyle is done.

LOL he was told to pick a major? No if you are into something you pick a major. Weird, Fox (Temple's business school) has economics (where I graduated cum lade despite being drunk for 4 years straight) and many forms of management etc. While Roy thinks this is another flex against the system, he's showing again he's not able to lock anything down. Much like he wants to trade, stocks, be a CEO, run a hedge, open a corp, sell domains, etc. He just jumps on any hour cool trend.

Coding, is well not my strong point but, it's math. I could learn it. A real econ geek understands math and could go into engineering or coding. Roy can't do any of them because he's not able to the math.

I got that wrong. Roy is in fact disagreeing with Garry Tan. He's just doing it in a very stupid way.

The original post in the thread by "Tsarsthustra" airs an argument by Larry Summers that it's better to focus on soft skills rather than coding because AI will make coders obsolete. This kind of argument is made by other economists as well, none of whom seem to know a damn thing about programming or design. Maybe there's a bias among economists to downplay the value of people who are not economists. That's my suspicion, anyway, but it's not critical to my point here.

Garry Tan disagrees very succinctly, and I think correctly. It's not that smart an idea.

Roy starts out on the offensive, as usual, but his point is far less respectable. He didn't do well in MIS, therefore coding doesn't matter, is his inarticulate point. Arguing from incomprehension and incapacity is not convincing, unless you're seeking to be convinced that Roy is a pathetic idiot. Which is a pretty easy sell.

So Roy is in fact a tard, just not for the reasons I thought.

Somewhat off topic, but I'd say focusing on math in coding is missing the forest for the trees. Occasionally math is really important, and it's important to be competent at it, but the vast majority of coding is really about communication. Coding is a conversation with your colleagues (as well as your future self) about the problem you're solving. You need to produce comprehensible code that obviously runs, but also code that a coworker can read and extend.

The math is usually a small part that gets written once and does its job. Much more of a project is usually organizational.

This is why the stereotype of the awkward, autistic programmer is an inaccurate cliche. There's nothing worse than programmers that churn out unreadable nonsense that, sure, it runs, but no one but the original author can make sense of. So when the client changes their mind for the millionth time, only the autist can fix it.

Don't get me wrong, there's tons of spergy weirdos in the field with huge funko pop collections or furry avatars, but if they're good programmers, they'll have good communication skills. They can explain themselves both in words in conference calls as well as code.

Even if Roy could stitch together shit from stack overflow and get some code to sputter over the finish line, he's such an incoherent mushmouth that he'd be impossible to work with.

I mostly agree, but soft skills can only get you so far in coding. At times, a coder has to have basic math skills, as well as algorithmic ability. After that, they should learn how to communicate with others.

Roy can't even manage anything beyond simple arithmetic. It wouldn't matter if he were a skilled communicator for that purpose. A good communicator with an understanding of a relevant industry could be a very valuable product owner, but Roy bats 0 for 2 on that one.

The idea that social media companies will just give out users' information to any nutjob who asks is always amusing to me.

The thing is, even if these companies had a KYC program, do you really think they'd just be giving out people's information to any angry retard who sends them a message? There would still likely be some legal process you'd have to go through to get that information.

Also, Roy, you're just pathetic. You pretend like you don't care and you don't read when it's obvious that you care deeply. Just log off if you don't want to deal with shit on the internet (But don't, actually. Your random outbursts at anyone who discusses you are very amusing.)
