Just finished the two major LISA fangames, Hopeful and Pointless, so I might as well give my two cents on those.
TL;DR these fangames are actually good and worth playing if you enjoyed the canon games
Hopeful is quite a bit easier and more canon-compliant than Pointless. The world is much more similar to the source material and so are the graphics. You also don’t have to carefully plan out every battle and ration your items so carefully, so it’s definitely a better game if you’re looking for a more casual experience. Hopeful also has multiple endings, which I had a lot of fun exploring. I’m always a sucker for that sort of thing. The game is definitely worth checking out.
Pointless is a lot darker than the original LISA series and significantly more difficult from a gameplay perspective. While the game follows the same general worldbuilding as the source material, lots of new lore is added on, and it almost feels like a different game towards the end of the first chapter. This isn’t to say it’s bad or anything; I had a great time with this game, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment.
