RPGnet Forums

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
They're expert infiltrators; it's not just RPGNet. The jannies on /tg/ will ban you if you ridicule White Wolf / Onyx Path for pozzing World of Darkness. I'm not joking.
I left /tg/ years ago, how time flies.
Spent a while maintaining the Runequest general, but it never found a permanent home.
That and I found I was banned for razzing coomers and troons too frequently to keep it up.
It's been a shithole for a decade or more.

Also, fuck WOTC, and fuck GW.

In 2018 I was the guy who maintained the World of Darkness general. I wrote a script that checked it every minute and would ping me if it was above the bump limit AND at page 7 or lower. I'd have a new thread's image and question and so on ready to go. I'd post it, but there was a Discord link to a "non-SJW" (lol) server. Kind of cringe in hindsight, but the usual suspects HATED it for the expected reasons.

This thread has enormous future potential for, uh, arranging passenger lists for those scenic helicopter rides. Or at least being very, very gay.

Isn't that just regular D&D these days?

Shout out to the time the furries got their containment thread shut down because they wouldn't stop being horny.

"The older, wilder days of RPG.net" when posters would openly drool over futanari porn in Tangency. Those were the days.

I'll take weirdness over self-righteous insane hall monitors any day. At least back then you could avoid tangency and actually talk about games and campaign ideas without "taking a three day vacation" for culturally appropriating Mexican voodoo or whatever nonsense fucking violation the mods could dream up to pretend they have some kind of power.

RPGNet was a pretty decent place to have autistic rules discussions until the rise of Donald Trump made them lose their goddamned minds.
If it ever truly was, I think your time frame is out of line somewhat.
RPGnet has been a huge pile of censorious cringe since since long before the Goblins comic creator trooned out.
I was still reading Order Of The Stick, and the god-awful samurai bitch arc was current.
GITP wasn't that bad back then, but it was still a little too "controlled" for me to feel like there was any point in talking shop there.
I have heard tell of a long ago time, when it was actually a place for people to talk about tabletop freely.
But it was in the days when I was but a beardling, and I did not know that I was an Always Chaotic Evil cis White male.

Just when the conversations would get interesting, the mods would swoop in and replace everything with their red text. "{Scrub the post, scrub the quote}"

I can't say whether this is right or wrong, as I stopped going to RPG net around the time original World of Darkness came to an end, but Trump certainly made the situation too bad to ignore. The blanket ban on Trump support was the first time I'd even heard of the site in years, as it was eyebrow-raising enough to break into other genre areas.

Gamergate/Trump was the Rubicon moment but they were rabidly Leftist back in the Obama years. 2013/2014 was the point where they shifted from mocking and bullying the right to more or less banning them on sight.

Doesn't surprise me. Things were relatively sane in 2005ish with some obvious issues, but going from that to REEEE NO TRUMPERS ALLOWED! is not an overnight phenomenon.

They'd been banning people for off-site behavior for some time before then.

I don't remember that, but I don't doubt you're right. I left not because the site was bad but because I fell out of the hobby.
