The reputation of Rudy Giuliani could be set for a further blow with the release of highly embarrassing footage in Sacha Baron Cohen’s follow-up to Borat.

In the film, released on Friday, the former New York mayor and current personal attorney to Donald Trump is seen reaching into his trousers and apparently touching his genitals while reclining on a bed in the presence of the actor playing Borat’s daughter, who is posing as a TV journalist.

Following an obsequious interview for a fake conservative news programme, the pair retreat at her suggestion for a drink to the bedroom of a hotel suite, which is rigged with concealed cameras.

After she removes his microphone, Giuliani, 76, can be seen lying back on the bed, fiddling with his untucked shirt and reaching into his trousers. They are then interrupted by Borat who runs in and says: “She’s 15. She’s too old for you.”

Representatives for Giuliani have not replied to the Guardian’s requests for comment.

Methinks he realized that this lie is so blatant that it's easily legally actionable and is distancing himself from the morons involved. Giuliani, Trump, and the rest of the Republicans need to grow a fucking backbone (and some brains, a bunch of Reps let big tech pay them off recently, which is the political equivalent of accepting a hundred dollars to not put out a fire in your house and just let it burn) and go after Facebook, Twitter, and all the other big tech outlets pushing this story HARD. How much proof do you need that these people want to destroy you and will push fabricated accusations of the worst crimes imaginable to do so?

If it were just that he were a pedo, that wouldn't be millions according to the Musk Doctrine. Its the direct accusation of "You were going to have sex with a 15 year old before I interrupted you!" that's going to nail him, since that's pretty much per se defamation, as its alleging serious criminal activity.

EDIT: There is an out for Sacha Baron Cohen, namely the "I was merely pretending to be retarded" defense, where he claims what he was attempting was so stupid no reasonable person would believe it. Considering how fucking stupid it was... non-zero chance of that working. Of course, considering you have to be Alex Jones to pull that off as a celebrity, not sure he's got the balls to trash his reputation to keep his money.

Giuliani lost internet cool points with losers, but unless someone who sponsors his youtube videos pulls out citing this as their reason, it wouldn't go anywhere in court.

And given that the initial report on this "scandal" was "the film comes out on Friday", it's clear this was a publicity stunt, and by Cohen's own statement nothing inappropriate happened and it was a frame-up for a gag. Why else burst in before he got his dick out even though you had hidden cameras in the room?

For defamation to hold up you have to have suffered some clear material loss due to what was said about you AND it was provable false. Giuliani lost internet cool points with losers, but unless someone who sponsors his youtube videos pulls out citing this as their reason, it wouldn't go anywhere in court.

Some statements are considered damaging per se, without needing to prove material loss, and I'm pretty sure accusations of attempted statutory rape qualify. Cohen can probably weasel out on "It was obviously a joke" but the numerous sources who pushed it as a completely serious sex scandal are going to have a much harder time making that excuse.
