Culture Rush Limbaugh Has Advanced Lung Cancer - PLOT TWIST: The Leftists did it

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Conservative radio host and Republican kingmaker Rush Limbaugh said he’s been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.

Addressing listeners on his program Monday, Limbaugh said he will take some days off for further medical tests and to determine treatment.

“I have to tell you something today that I wish I didn’t have to tell you,” announced Limbaugh, 69. The cancer diagnosis was confirmed by two medical institutions in late January after he experienced his only symptom so far, shortness of breath, on his Jan. 12 birthday weekend, he said.

He was reluctant to discuss personal matters and distract from his work, he said, and wasn’t seeking to cover up his illness. He realized it was better to be honest and avoid the speculation that would follow when he has to miss being on air for treatment or as the result of treatment, Limbaugh added.

“But it is what it is. And you know me, I’m the mayor of Realville,” he said. “My intention is to come here every day I can. And to do this program as normally” and competently as usual.

He said he considers his listeners to be to be part of a “family type relationship” with him, adding that his job has given him the “greatest satisfaction and happiness” he’s experienced.

Limbaugh’s announcement comes at a tumultuous political time, as the conclusion of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial nears.

“It’s shocking to the industry, and it should be shocking to the political establishment,” Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, the trade industry publication for talk radio, said of Limbaugh’s disclosure.

He started his first national radio show in 1988 from New York, later relocating to Palm Beach, Florida.

The hyper-partisan broadcaster has dominated talk radio with a raucous, liberal-bashing style that made him one of the most influential voices of American right-wing politics and inspired other conservative broadcasters including Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly.

“Rush you are in our prayers,” Beck tweeted. “We live in a time of modern miracles. Millions are praying you find one.”

Limbaugh said he intends to work as much as possible. He also said he had focused more “intensely” in the past two weeks on what he called his “deeply personal relationship” with God.

The media figure’s endorsement and friendship is a conservative political treasure. His idol, Ronald Reagan, wrote a letter that Limbaugh read on the air in December 1992 and which sealed his reputation among conservatives: “You’ve become the number one voice for conservatism in our country,” Reagan wrote.

Two years later, Limbaugh would be so widely credited as key to Republicans’ takeover of Congress for the first time in 40 years, he was deemed an honorary member of the new class.

Limbaugh has frequently been accused of hate-filled speech, including bigotry and blatant racism through his comments and sketches such as “Barack the Magic Negro,” a song featured on his show that said Obama “makes guilty whites feel good” and that the politician is “black, but not authentically.”

His popularity has survived brickbats and thrived despite personal woes.

In 2003, Limbaugh admitted an addiction to painkillers and entered rehabilitation. Authorities opened an investigation into alleged “doctor shopping,” saying he received up to 2,000 pills from four doctors over a period of six months, but he ultimately reached a deal with prosecutors that dismissed the single charge.

Personally I don't care much for the man, but fuck, that's a heavy load.

I was talking to some family about Rush's diagnosis, and then the conversation turned into a very nostalgic one-- ended up talking about moments in his show from over 25 years ago that I still remember to this day. Thanks, Mom. lol.

Now, I don't remember if Rush continued to do this on his show beyond the 90s and early 2000s, but he would have a "free-for-all" show every Friday where he would just be answering calls. I remember Rush getting an equal amount of fan calls and hater calls, and he really did handle the haters like a pro. He's the OG conservative shitlord. Milo Yiannopoulos wishes.

Those days where he would be answering phone calls stick out to me. The way he never lost his cool while talking to someone who despised him really set an example for me about how political discourse should go. Not only would Rush not lose his cool, but he gave those haters an actual platform on his own show to let it all out.

Say what you will about Rush Limbaugh, but he has represented how important freedom of speech is, and how important discourse is when it comes to politics. He is a man of many faults and flaws ... But he was one of my first examples about how important open discussion is.

And yes ... Sandra Fluke is, in fact, a slut.

He was always fine for a boomercon, and it sucks that he's dying. But the Presidential Medal of Freedom? Come on, might as well give one to Hannity and Bill O'Reilly too. He's no more entitled to it than either of them (or most other long time conservative talking heads) just because of his cancer.

No skin off my nose, though. It's certainly gone to less deserving people. Good for him to end on a high note.

I thought it was dumb too, but apparently Obama gave one to Ellen Degeneres, so it's not like you have to do anything to earn it these days.

Love him or hate him, he was very much a trailblazer for talk radio. He was a game changer with how people not only consumed media, but news media and political media. Obviously things have definitely evolved since the 80's (and talk radio is now becoming obsolete, I'd say), but it was a really big deal what Rush started and tapped into back in the day. He's been on record saying several times that he's just benefitted from good timing, but I digress.

He was the first ... Which makes him far more deserving than O'Reilly and Hannity, in my opinion.

And still to this day, Rush dedicates a lot of his time and money towards charity, so he has the title of "philanthropist" under his belt, too. He's successfully raised millions upon millions towards various types of apolitical charitable causes, such as cancer research, patient care, and care for 9/11 responders. He's used his radio program as a platform for his charity work as well.

So, are there people more deserving of this honor? Probably, if we're going to be honest. However, I don't think the Medal comes from out of nowhere and is completely baseless.

(But the left being so salty about it makes literally everything worth it.)

I grew up listening to his show. My dad always had him playing on the radio in his car. He was the on to give me some of my first red pills, Still listen to him if he's on when I go places. Always seemed like a great dude I hope he get's through this alright. And trump was defiantly right to give him the medal of freedom.

Oh look, media maters.

obama pretty much fucked Medal of Freedom when Ellen DeGeneres received one.

Before Rush we had CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, NPR, and CNN all sharing the same narrative. Rush was incredibly refreshing in that he was saying what many of us had been thinking for years as we watched and listened to media perpetually take democrat talking points as their narrative. Rush pushed back against the DNC group think and revitalized AM radio. Without Rush there would be no Fox News or conservative radio.

This was pretty funny, I laughed.

“He’s said/done some terrible things, but I hope he has his peace.” That’s it.
What if you don't hope he has his piece though because he made fun of nappy hair once?

No one deserves to suffer in their last days, regardless of how awful they are.
You have led a blessed life, to have never had to hate someone.

He's more entitled to it because he was a pioneer instead of a useless me-too that mostly took their talking points from him in the first place. But he was just given the medal to troll people regardless.

You’d be surprised, then. There are/were people in my life that I absolutely hate with every fiber of my body. It’s just against my values to let someone suffer in their last days, no matter how much I hate them.

Fucking thank you.

There are many people I've claimed to hate throughout my life ... But not once have I wished death and suffering on them. I would just care to never interact with those people again, lol.

Lots of people these days just take their hatred to another level and then try to justify it by claiming to have some moral high ground. Unless the person is actually someone that harms people, then I don't understand the mentality on wishing death on someone. Jesus Christ. Calm down, people.

Not a big fan of this guy, and I disagreed with pretty much all of his political opinions. However cancer is really fucking terrible to have and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving piece of shit. Hope he rots in hell.

He's made more money than you'll see in your entire life and he'll be buried in a coffin bigger and more grandiose than the cardboard box you call home.

He also influences more people in 5 second clips than you will ever reach with your inane faggotry.

I'm sure he's weeping into his golden bowl of frosted flakes that some pinko-fascist furries don't like him.

Rush is forever. You aren't even an afterthought on a free internet website that worships the weird.

Ngl, kinda jealous that the dude got to smoke so many Arturo Fuente Opus X cigars that they're going to kill him. That's like getting cancer from standing too close to burning bales of hundred dollar bills. There are cheaper ways to die.

I dislike your opinion but I admire your balls.

I think I might have listened to him sometimes on long car trips with my parents, but that was years ago.

On some of his politics, I'm just like 'Ehhh.'

The thing that annoys me about him though is that for the longest time he ignored and outright denied what the doctors and findings were saying about the links between smoking and lung cancer, emphysema, and heart disease just to piss off 'dem libs.'

It would not have hurt his conservative street cred to at least acknowledge something that was pretty much an apolitical medical viewpoint, because it's not 'owning the libs' if it causes you to defiantly continue to do something that eventually ends up killing you.

Let me tell you, lots of people are in denial about their vices until the consequences hit them right in the face. That's just what addiction can do to a person. I don't think it was Rush maintaining any "conservative cred," personally.

I've known many smokers throughout my life where the consequences unfortunately hit them after a while. Every smoker I've known has said things very similar to Rush, sadly. Doesn't make them horrible people ... Just makes them in denial. Nobody's perfect. Even with the things Rush said about tobacco and nicotine in the past, though, he still has done a ton of charity work for cancer.

From what I've seen over the years, Rush has always had an addictive personality, from the smoking, to the pill popping, and to the fluctuating weight throughout the decades. Makes you really think about how stressful his job has been for so long.

How do we know its the smoking that gave him lung cancer and not radio towers?
