Culture Rush Limbaugh Has Advanced Lung Cancer - PLOT TWIST: The Leftists did it

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Conservative radio host and Republican kingmaker Rush Limbaugh said he’s been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.

Addressing listeners on his program Monday, Limbaugh said he will take some days off for further medical tests and to determine treatment.

“I have to tell you something today that I wish I didn’t have to tell you,” announced Limbaugh, 69. The cancer diagnosis was confirmed by two medical institutions in late January after he experienced his only symptom so far, shortness of breath, on his Jan. 12 birthday weekend, he said.

He was reluctant to discuss personal matters and distract from his work, he said, and wasn’t seeking to cover up his illness. He realized it was better to be honest and avoid the speculation that would follow when he has to miss being on air for treatment or as the result of treatment, Limbaugh added.

“But it is what it is. And you know me, I’m the mayor of Realville,” he said. “My intention is to come here every day I can. And to do this program as normally” and competently as usual.

He said he considers his listeners to be to be part of a “family type relationship” with him, adding that his job has given him the “greatest satisfaction and happiness” he’s experienced.

Limbaugh’s announcement comes at a tumultuous political time, as the conclusion of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial nears.

“It’s shocking to the industry, and it should be shocking to the political establishment,” Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, the trade industry publication for talk radio, said of Limbaugh’s disclosure.

He started his first national radio show in 1988 from New York, later relocating to Palm Beach, Florida.

The hyper-partisan broadcaster has dominated talk radio with a raucous, liberal-bashing style that made him one of the most influential voices of American right-wing politics and inspired other conservative broadcasters including Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly.

“Rush you are in our prayers,” Beck tweeted. “We live in a time of modern miracles. Millions are praying you find one.”

Limbaugh said he intends to work as much as possible. He also said he had focused more “intensely” in the past two weeks on what he called his “deeply personal relationship” with God.

The media figure’s endorsement and friendship is a conservative political treasure. His idol, Ronald Reagan, wrote a letter that Limbaugh read on the air in December 1992 and which sealed his reputation among conservatives: “You’ve become the number one voice for conservatism in our country,” Reagan wrote.

Two years later, Limbaugh would be so widely credited as key to Republicans’ takeover of Congress for the first time in 40 years, he was deemed an honorary member of the new class.

Limbaugh has frequently been accused of hate-filled speech, including bigotry and blatant racism through his comments and sketches such as “Barack the Magic Negro,” a song featured on his show that said Obama “makes guilty whites feel good” and that the politician is “black, but not authentically.”

His popularity has survived brickbats and thrived despite personal woes.

In 2003, Limbaugh admitted an addiction to painkillers and entered rehabilitation. Authorities opened an investigation into alleged “doctor shopping,” saying he received up to 2,000 pills from four doctors over a period of six months, but he ultimately reached a deal with prosecutors that dismissed the single charge.

Fuck cancer, but I’m not shedding any tears over him. He’s a really bad person and the world would be a better place if fewer people listened to his show. He’s propagated so much hate, fear, and divisiveness over the years that it’s hard for me to feel a lot of empathy for him. Especially considering he offers so little empathy himself to black people, women, etc.

I don’t wish death or suffering on anyone but Rush Limbaugh is a piece of shit and him getting lung cancer doesn’t detract from that. I’m not gonna pretend he’s a saint and a respectable icon just because he’s dying.

He talked on the radio. I'm not sure that a reddit post saying how he doesn't believe in Global Warming or that cigarettes cause cancer means he is making the world a worse place. He also donated millions to charity, not counting the millions he raised for the same causes in other people's money, which should logically do more good than calling someone a slut on talk radio would do bad.

I'm not really a fan, and am in the same "Old people put it on the radio sometime when I was younger" camp as some of the other guys here, but "HE IS A TERRIBLE PERSON BECAUSE HE SAID SOME KINDA RUDE THINGS!" is retarded.

Racism and misogyny are not “kinda rude things,” they’re hateful and cruel language that encourages people to see women/non-whites as less than human. Limbaugh has an enormous impact on his listeners and he uses it to spread outright lies and false information on top of hatred aimed at leftists and the aforementioned women and minorities. That is how he makes the world worse.

He seems like a very hateful person and I don’t think he should be admired.

So you are saying boomers accidentally tune in to the show, their innocent ears accidentally hear him compare football to gangs, and boom suddenly all his listeners are racist. Because people actually get converted by talk radio instead of only listening to things they already agree with in the first place. How many people do you think Rush turned into racists or sexists? What measurable negative impact do you suggest this had? Do you even have anecdotes suggesting that someone was a perfect angel until they turned that dial to the Devil Rock and-I mean Rush?

on top of hatred aimed at leftists

Like saying they are pieces of crap and how he isn't feeling anything when those subhumans who made the world worse die? That kind of hatred makes the world worse huh?

Why are we linking to reddit for proof of ANYTHING?

Anyways, I have no idea if he's said the things you claim, or if he was making offensive jokes. It doesn't take away from the fact that cancer sucks. Unless he actually hurt others with something other than mean words, I don't think saying that you have no empathy for him is healthy.

I found this study examining Limbaugh’s impact on conservative radio and his audience, for better or worse:

And yes, I have anecdotal evidence of Limbaugh’s show making people more intolerant and/or misinformed. I’ve had family members parrot back misinformation after they heard it on his show. I’m not claiming all of his listeners are brainwashed, I’m just pointing out that I have personally witnessed people become more ignorant after listening to him. It doesn’t happen to everyone but it does happen.

And even if he didn’t convert anyone, he’s still telling ignorant boomers it’s okay to be ignorant.

He is a bad person and I don’t feel obligated to spend energy crying over bad people. I don’t wish that he dies, I just don’t care. And seriously, let’s not pretend this is a game of morals because if Soros kicked the bucket tomorrow people on here would be celebrating.

Soros actively fucked over the UK's currency to get richer. Pretty sure that hurt a lot of people, and not just the rich Brits. Saying stupid crap on an outdated signal doesn't really compare.

It isn't just that he's dying. If you have ever had a loved one die of cancer, you know the hell it puts not just the person, but the people around him through. It is absolutely awful.

I have lost loved ones to cancer. I know firsthand how devastating it is. I do not and would never wish cancer or suffering on anyone. I do feel bad for Limbaugh’s loved ones. If it were up to me, he wouldn’t have cancer. Nobody would.

But that doesn’t change the fact I think he’s a bad person and I don’t think he’s leaving a good legacy behind.

They literally just recorded things that have come out of Limbaugh’s mouth but okay, discount them just because you don’t like them.
Did they bring up the caller abortions he used to do? They were fucking hilarious.

That is fine, but it also comes across a lot differently than your previous posts. Sometimes it's not what you are saying, but but how you say it. Linking to r/news, which is tap dancing on the his grave already, also didn't help. 🙁

Hitler didn't leave a good legacy behind, I just regret he took the coward's way out instead of facing judgment for his crimes before a court of law. I still wouldn't wish cancer on him though.

I get it. Limbaugh was an abrasive douche with polarizing takes that incensed people, but it's asinine to piss on his dying body regardless, it won't turn back the clock on what he's done, good or bad.

I linked that post because it does a good job of capturing Limbaugh’s shitty persona and all the offensive shit he’s said over the years. I don’t agree with people saying he deserves cancer. Absolutely no one deserves cancer (well, okay, maybe terrorists and mass murderers do). Cancer is an absolutely awful way to go and I would never wish it on anyone.

I genuinely hope Limbaugh chooses to spend the rest of his life trying to better himself and spending time with the people he cares about instead of saying polarizing shit on the radio.

I love the codescending, bleeding heart bs you're spouting. "Better himself". Someone who went from nothing to phenomenally successful, dragging quite a few (even, *gasp* black) people along with him, mainly in a dead medium. Maybe Kasey Kasem had his listeners hip numbers, maybe the Carter Family, but it was the '30s and they had a million watt radio station in Mexico to saturate half the planet from.

He was obnoxious, but his life couldn't have taken much better of a path.

You sound just like the people that hounded the Pediatric AIDS Foundation back in the 90s until they gave back the significant donations he had made, because purity is more important than kids with a terrible disease inflicted on them.

I disagree. Not everyone who listens to Rush is a "dittohead" in the same way that everyone who reads KF supports everything that is said here.

Smart people -and Rush IS smart- often fall into a trap of coming to conclusions in their younger days, are convinced they're truth, and never reexamine those conclusions as culture and societies change, or new information is discovered, because truth is immutable.

His view on the food stamp program appalls me, and he is wrong.

His view on gay marriage is wrong.

The way he conflates all feminist thought into "feminazism" punches my buttons because the rad fems were right (about troons), but he can't separate them from libfems- who are wrong about troons (and other things).

I will respectfully disagree with you on his alleged racism. On his "misogyny"? I will disagree as well on that. I won't make excuses for an old dude holding old dudish gender views, but by the same token, I won't water down what misogyny really is by applying it to him.

He's informed a huge part of my political evolution, and opened my mind in ways I never expected in my younger days. I have deep gratitude and affection for him because of that, and it's hard to comprehend my personal cultural and political landscape without him bellowing through the speakers after his magnificent bumper music.

But I get that he's not everyone's cup of tea.

I thought Rush was a huge gasbag when I was younger, but as I got older I started agreeing with him on more things.
I agree with Strawberrys post, he was wrong on some things, and was a stubborn old fart at times, but I do have a big soft spot in my cold black heart for him.
I also agree with him on Rio Linda.
