In terms of writing and storytelling at least it's not a joke, but the sad reality we live in. I'll be the last person to white knight for RWBY, but I really fail to see anime in this day and age is any different from shitty weeb webcomics or - may Allah forgive me for even saying this word - webtoons. I will however consneed that the Nips are way better at running anime studios and keeping their spaghetti in their pockets. I have yet to see a Japanese voice actor threatening to give someone AIDS over a Twitter tardfight for example.

Just to be clear: By the standards of any person with a traditional chromosome count RWBY is a humanitarian disaster and a cautionary tale. But by standards of modern anime it's (lower) mediocre at worst.

I disagree. While in terms of writing they're almost on par, the fact that RWBY isn't a power fantasy for incels or softcore porn for paedophiles puts it leagues above those two. For now at least because God only knows what Miles might do...

That's because most of the animes we've been getting lately are adaptations of shitty weeb webcomics and LN/VN properties.

RWBY is beter than at least SAO by one metric: it hasn't been a driving influence on the medium as a hole for half a decade.

I'll defend Naruto and Shippuden as both being pretty decent on the caveat that you cut out the filler, the only real complaint I have with Shippuden is Kaguya but from my understanding that was more editor interference than any decision of the writer's.

Eh, after Pain, it just becomes Kishimoto just giving Naruto and Sasuke more powers because he writes himself into a corner with villains more OP than the last.

Doesn't that sound familiar? That's the problem with shounen in general: they keep characters just continuously getting stronger, untill they make villains so OP that new powers need to exist just to explain the victory. It's funny that of all the things to be inspired by from shounen series, it was the main issue that occurs when they run for too long. Salem is just the chinese knock off equivalent to kaguya.

Except instead of Kaguya being defeated by the team work of a finally reunited Team 7, she got blown up by a nuke stored in Hiruzen's scroll and instead of Sasuke being the ultimate final boss, it's Iruka who turned into Anime Hitler, who is then defeated in thirty seconds and is replaced with Mizuki.
 
Monty dying in 2015 must have REALLY hurt this show.
