My god this Celtic Phoenix guy suuuuuuuucks. His redesigns of volume 4 are fucking stupid, I have read better fanfiction and seen better rewrites on YouTube. One where Jaune dies instead. I don't mind the Cardin and velvet story, but the fucking Yang, Weiss, and Neptune storylines are horrific

Also wtf is his accent
He must be part Irish or Scottish. Or both.

Anyways, what don't you like about the redesigns? Too plain? Boring?

Dude’s name is “Raymond McNiel”

I still not understand what was the appeal of this show in its premiere.
I only remember having a horrible framerate on screen and getting dizzy in seconds. Even the animation was subpar as fuck.

I’ve asked this before, and the basic impression I get is that it’s a product of it’s time, and you had to “be there” to get it. Which is something I honestly feel with the original Star Wars movies, in that they just don’t hold up if you’re watching them for the first time in current year.

It had a "Little Engine That Could" sweatshop charm to it.
Also, the Nevermore Fight.
Simple: 1. Cute anime girls fighting monsters. 2. Monty Oum was making his own show when he was at the height of his online fame. His own anime. 3. Weapons that are also guns. 4. RT was at its height, and they had it at a point where literally anything they did was a big deal and had fans right off the bat. 5. RWBY brought in a new legion of fans RT hadn’t had before.

As someone who more or less enjoys V1-3, I can say it's a combination of likeable, well-designed characters and enjoyable action sequences. It's definitely a style over substance kind of show, and the fact that it was totally free on YouTube made its various shortcomings easier to forgive.

With Monty it also had a good GarageBand finding success kind of feel. It was a show made with a lot of passion, maybe not perfect, but a talented weeb achieving his dream of creating a widely successful anime of his own was very inspiring.

I think that factor is also why autistic retards on the internet latch onto the show and want to rewrite it, or become obsessed with Monty's 'legacy', but I digress.

TL;DR fun amateur show with good parts available for free.

Mostly it comes from what he said about Jaune. He was like “oh he ditches the stupid hoodie” without realizing that Jaune’s hoodie is a connection to Pyyrha. It’s Pumpkin Pete which Pyyrha was on the cover of. For him to dismiss it makes him seem like a fucking idiot without seeing the little details.
he just comes off as a pompous idiot tbh

And what about the Yang, Weiss and Neptune storylines? How are they not improvements to their character arcs?

Did those last couple of episodes feel like an ad for Gen Lock to you too? Cordova running around in that stupid mech, I mean? Not to mention those obnoxious ass adds for it that were at the start of every episode. That put me right off Gen Lock.
Genlock did everything so badly, the only show to come out, relatively, unscathed was death battle which pretty much only happened because most of it is made away from the animation department. It's telling that the early "ads" for genlock barely felt like it was for a new show at all.

I think the turning point for the change in reception of rwby had less to do with Monty's death and was mainly that the series after volume 3 garnered a massive boost in expectation once it was being treated like a "true anime". Things that were once treated as forgiveable like wooden writing and and even worse delivery (there's a reason qrow was insanely popular and it was almost entirely thanks to the guy they got rid of) and abysmal pacing became front and center of people's minds in discussions. And that doesn't even mention the sudden desire to appeal to shippers in the worst ways possible.

Shonen anime writing is not something anyone should strive to emulate
I disagree solely on the grounds that shonens know how to generate hype and be entertaining, which is more than I can say of a lot of things nowadays.

Gen;Lock was carried by RT somehow being able to get actual actors to voice the main cast, but everything else was just grey sludge that's trying to be an edgy pseudo-philosophical mecha anime and that shit's just boring. If you're going to have a show about giant robots then embrace the stupidity and chaos of the concept and either make RvB but BattleTech or a hot blooded super robot

Worse, he pretends to have an Irish accent as part of his brand but if you hear him talk normally he's just American.

Actually the McNiel part is a pseudonym so that he can lean into the "I'm totally Irish guys" thing.

Hell even Battletech has a rich universe underneath all the scholck. The issue is that everyone wants to be the next Eva or Gundam.

I seriously doubt anyone who's left at RT has even heard of Battletech, much less gives enough of a shit to do it justice.
They might have heard of it, it's started to get way more popular following the exodus away from 40K and the success of the last couple Mechwarrior games. With that said though I wish it had stayed underground.

First thing they did when it started to get popular was fire the one problematic writer they had on staff, then hired his tranny stalker lmao.

if They had killed off Jaune instead of Pyyrha would that make the show post beacon better? I think so because look at what they could have done:

1. Pyyrha looking to fuck up Cinder’s world. Would have added so much to best girl and a Depressed/revenge filled Pyyrha would be fun to explore. Plus she’s best girl next to Weiss and Yang.

2. JNPR exactly having a purpose and a story now.

3. Would have added a new dimension to Weiss

4. Ruby’s silver eyes would have fucking made sense.

Problem: If Jaune is dead, who is going to be Miles' self-insert?
