It was bad. Not RWBY levels of terrible, but definitely bad by generic anime standards.

Honestly, its hard to even remember what happened or what was accomplished. Not that it matters since they abandoned going balls to the wall non-canon to have fun with the property and settled for boring "canon adjacent" which is just non-canon done in a bullshit manner where it "technically" could have happened.

Oh Jesus, I can't watch Twiins for more than like three minutes before her voice makes me want to commit murder, can I get the cliff notes?
I’ll give a more blow by blow offering when I get the chance since she talks about individual episodes, but the big picture is that the recap episodes kind of took a lot of the animation budget and the middle part look rather disappointing (especially episode 10), but the fact it’s not perfect doesn’t mean the whole thing is awful. And that Shaft managed to have her do something that RT had failed to do for years: watch RWBY and have fun while doing it.

Also, enjoy this pinned comment about Shion.

Wowie look at that M E N T A L G Y M N A S T I C S at work. Not only did Twiins managed to show that she knows jack-diddly-shit on what she's talking about, but also managed to squeeze her tranny/Enby character headcanon out of the most minute and inconsequential tidbit of a character.

Has anyone talked about what gender Shion is in any official capacity?

I more or less thought it was fine, I didn't hate or love it. Weiss is my favorite so I enjoyed a show kind of focused around her. The biggest issue for me was the incredibly slow pacing of the dream world events.

Ice Queendom fucking sucked. The worst kind of tie-in material that expands nothing, adds nothing, and does nothing interesting. The best parts of it were the bits of V1/2 they re-animated and spent all the money on so that all the cool fights we might have seen in the dream got an After Effects treatment.

Animation was ugly as fuck and the characters looked retarded, I might have enjoyed getting to see some Schnee shit but it all felt hollow, and holy fuck the plot was repetitive as hell. The most fun I had was seeing Twitter melt down when Blake cosplayed as her abuser.

At least the soundtrack was banging.

Is there going to be a second season or something?
Of Ice Queendom? Haven’t heard much about details outside of the cast.

I think the issue is that literally everything else in RWBY lets down that simple hook, you can't make every episode one big fight scene.
I mean, with the fall of Beacon, I think you could argue that the show bit off more than they could chew (as had been argued here). Even without that, what was there besides the action and R34 potential?

That's pretty much the point I was trying to make, there really is no substance to RWBY as a property. It's a couple of pretty decent action scenes and a whole lot of "what if?" and nostalgia.

That's basically why all attempts to fix RWBY all look so drastically different. Plus all the bloat and clutter of the cast and storyline means everybody wants to keep and throw away different things.

Plus there are a million action properties that RWBY aped that are way better. Racism? Magic Systems? Fullmetal Alchemist. A colorful cast with different powers? Jojo and fuckin' Power Rangers. Monster Hunting? The Monster Hunter franchise. That's my two cents anyways.
