You don't even need the flashback, just have the story actually take a moment to reflect on it.

The problem with Adam's brand in the show isn't that it isn't edgy enough or that we don't have a flashback dedicated to it, it's that after the entire show failing to effectively show Faunus Oppression and after Adam's motivation being thrown out to just be about Blake, we only learn such a major detail in what amounts to a throw away taunt. No questions, no dialogue, just dropped immediately in the episode before his death and never mentioned again even though one of our main characters is heiress to the company that did this and we're about to deal directly with that Company's CEO in the next volume.

It's one of those bizarre writing decisions because even utterly shit writers would see no reason to introduce such a major shit about a character at the last minute when that character is going to be killed off adn never mentioned again..

And then CRWBY realised that backstory didn't make Adam pathetic enough and retcon'd it so that Adam's brand actually had nothing to do with the SDC and he just got into an accident during a brawl.
Adam's brand being retconned is probably what I hate the most about how he was handled. It'd make a good spin to the whole "abusive-boyfriend" if they really wanted to go that route, where he'd essentially just be perpetrating the cycle. Adam could think he that he was genuinely being a loving partner to Blake, when he's really just enacting a much less severe form of what he went through. But since we know CRWBY likes to tell instead of show, that wouldn't happen. Any gray area this show tries to present is retconned almost immediately into being a black-and-white situation.

to what I think is an attempt at Starscream from Transformers
Screamer is actually fun though. I think it's because the writers know he's a massive bitch and he gets a partial comeuppance every now and again because status quo is god and the later series go whole hog with it, to the point that in TFA Megatron kills him the moment he gets the chance, but (un)fortunately (for him) he turned out to be immortal.
right now Adam's childhood as presented in FRWBY is comically tragic when in the regular show we were given just enough to show that he had some legitimate reasons for being as pissed off as he was
If you wanted to actually have some balls you could just make Adam an unrepentant Faunus supremacist with no over the top revenge plotline, he's just a bastard who latched onto a movement because it gives him an avenue to power and deluded himself into believing his own propaganda, that way you can make him as evil as you want because at the end of the day he's only did what he did for his own benefit and everyone else was just along for the ride.

Thing is, Adam WAS that originally, but since Blake has to be Arryn's self-insert, he's only evil cuz he wants her pussy real bad.
Everyone important to Blake's arc (aside from her parents) is/was her ally because they had a crush on her. Arryn dear, we know you're a narcissist and super bi-sexual, but please, consider not ruining everything you touch, your boyfriend does that enough.

How many self insert accusations have there been in this series?

Or you could just go all in on the idea of Adam going after his right hand accomplice for turning against him, and how all the means to do it. That's an avenue you can do, and you don't even need the Faunus rights plotline. Or the mentor/student. Or the abusive ex idea.

A lot. Monty said something along the lines of the characters were not tied to their voice actors. (like any show really) But we know that isn't the case, particularly where Miles and Arryn are involved.

"See guys? We have a character referencing meta complaints, that means we don't have to actually address them!"

And, oh look, the girls are forced to face their failures and ask what's become of their- Pffft, no, no, we all called it; it's just that superficial reflection where they just whine that everything didn't go 100% perfect instead of actually addressing anything they could be responsible for.

And, jesus christ, the girls 'rejecting' their weak-as-fuck self-criticism manage to sound like such fucking twats. "I am the granddaughter of a hero, daughter of a villain and the remnants of a fallen city! RASPECHT MEH!"

Honestly, a character like that could go really deep with the cutting. Maybe that's what the Poser Ruby projection did.

So we had:

Weiss: instead of trying to restore her family name from how her father ruined it, she can just be some nobody.

Blake: instead of being the bridge between humans and Faunus, she can just pick a lane and stay in it.

Yang: maybe she can go back to having two arms that don't vibrate.

Ruby: Being a hero is tougher than advertised, isn't it? So the now the question is what is she going to do about it and her career path, I'm assuming.

If the idea is to be meta, I can only assume that the whole plan of "forget about your worries and your strife" and return to point zero is just a way to suggest how to handle these characters in a reboot because I guess discovering a character and and goal/objective is a better way to do things than just having a plan mapped out from their first appearance.

That or I'm just looking way too much into a scene that's supposed to be some kind of acid trip.

Finally caught up on V9, and I'm convinced that M&K just did this so they could add those cute lil shippable moments between the girls for the fans. I can't make myself like Ever After. Maybe it's really just not the best time for RWBY to be doing introspections of themselves in the middle of a whimsical fantasyland- YOUR FRIENDS ARE IN SANDSTORM HELL.

They literally destroyed Atlas, and ran off to Wonderland while their friends deal with the mess.
Consequences are for inferior male protagonists, not perfect characters like Ruby.
Also, no amount of motivational speeches from her will unfuck the damage she's done.

They literally destroyed Atlas, and ran off to Wonderland while their friends deal with the mess.
They stopped the only viable plan to save Atlas for really no reason other than they didn't like the guy who made it, then turned around and came up with the exact same plan they just stopped for no reason, settled on some stupid magical Deus ex machina bullshit they had no reason to think would work, then dragged the remaining population of Atlas to a desert hell hole with practically no resources, and then went off to Wonderland while everyone has to deal with the fallout.

We just need to keep adding on all this information to really sell just how fucked this situation became BECAUSE of Team RWBY, not in spite of them.
