I am guessing the only reason the leads and remaining staff of RT aren’t laid off yet is because RWBY merchandise and licensing must still have some revenue. That probably bought them some time to keep trying to find investors.

But I doubt WB will be forever patient with them. There’s little reason to keep them around without any new project in sight.

The best they can do is literally suck the board members' dicks.

Don’t Lindsay and Barbara also still have positions as RT talent? And Barbara is the creative director.

without any new project in sight.
I mean, technically they have three projects in sight:
Bonus FIRST content:
  • Vol 9 retrospective (they will also be answering questions from FIRST members)
  • The shitty Grimm Campaign (RWBY D&D) series that makes a mess of RWBY lore is back. They are making completely new mini arc for it with new characters. “You will have fun. That is a threat” actual words said in advertising.
  • “RWBY Volume 9 Beyond” storybook looking at key moments in Vol 9 “and even beyond”.
Yes, I know that's not what you meant.
And Barbara is the creative director.
You know, that explains why RT is collapsing.

I roll my eyes every time. The one thing that caught people's eyes were the fight choreographies. That's it. Nothing else. Oh, and hentai. And yuri bait.
And you're right, but it was a weirdo internet creator making niche content for a dedicated fanbase. It was slop, but it wasn't corpo slop, and that can make a difference, it certainly did for me at least.

This element can't be undersold. Early RWBY had a garage band appeal, Monty was endlessly passionate and despite looking kind of shitty and being decidedly amateur in execution it has the appeal of being something cool and indie.

The minute Monty died and RT vultures swooped in to corporatize the show is when it lost that appeal and had only shit writing and memories of better times to fall back on. Even worse, it became exponentially more expensive to make. If they'd let Shane keep working on it as Monty's defacto successor, it probably would have looked cheap as fuck but been easier to produce.

I think the biggest thing holding it back at that point was the "Monty's Vision" crowd tbh. Once Monty was dead the show was no longer his and the new show runners should have just gone whole hog into continuing the show but in their image, unfortunately this kinda happened and we ended up with M&K and their retarded ass ideas, but the show needed to continue to feel "loose" like those early Volumes and it just didn't do that.

It's definitely true that Monty didn't have some kind of epic super well thought out plan for the show aside from cute girls do fights, and trying to incorporate his last couple of retarded ideas caused the show lots of problems.

If they were going to let M/K steer the ship they should have kept it cheap and fun, rather than letting them turn it into Avatar. But, sadly, they went corporate in every regard except adding a tard wrangler for the lead writers.

I remember hearing about RWBY back in my freshman year of high school and wasnt too interested at the time. I eventually gave it a shot and maybe got a season or two in? I cant recall how much I had seen, but since then ive vaguelly followed RWBY.
As someone who likes writing and appreciates good organization when working on projects (and also being a disgusting weeb and yuri fan), Ive been dissapointed in the execution of it all for the longest time.
Maybe this summer ill force myself to watch some of the newer seasons.

I wouldn't, you've seen the best of it.

See, the joke is RT is a failing platform that needs to whore their best product out to other streaming services because they get more money from that than they get from First memberships (which have been steadily increasing in price, decreasing in consumer value, and decreasing in sales). Now, grab a bucket of popcorn, as many RECTANGULAR JPEGS ON FLAT BACKGROUNDS as you're credit card can hold, and rewatch the entire series to inflate the view count so people think RWBY is profitable.
