Hi, Kerry! In case you hop back into this thread (because we're all sure you've been here before), keep being you, bud! We're rooting for you!

- In before he runs Viz into the fucking ground :story:
That depends on how much of a sped Kerry is going to be. So long as he doesn't do anything retarded like being his usual, smarmy Nick Bates lite self, then they'll be fine.

If not, the ensuing scandals are gonna be popcorn worthy.
There's a 0% chance that Kerry will have anything close to the power he had at RT and will not be able to squander nearly as much money (if any). He's going to be a figurehead/consultant for RWBY and that's it.
If Shueisha (the company that owns Viz) even caught a slight whiff of his stupidity, Kerry would be on his ass in no time.

Bold of you to assume they give a shit about what America does. Look at what happened with Vic Migigna, a former RWBY VA, and Toei never took the DBZ license away from Funimation. What makes you think this will play any differently with a much smaller IP?

It's not the size of the IP that will piss them off, but rather the crater it creates in their wallets when Kerry finds a way to jack up production costs to $100K a minute.

Precisely. What else new can be shat on it?
Let's see:

-New outfits
-The return of Penny
-New equipment
-Jaune being a ladies' man
-Ruby and company getting huntsmen licenses
-Ironwood's Semblance
-Team RWBY vs Ace Ops
-Team RWBY is not explaining the relic to Ironwood
-Ironwood shooting Ozpin's host

And that's all I can think of that V7 gets ragged on for. Also, these two volumes go on for TWO DAYS in this universe.

I don't recall that. I mean, the most I recall is Vol 9 moment where Weiss gets hot and bothered about an adult looking Jaune, but that's a one off and not in Vol 7
There was a montage in V7 over Ruby and her friends being pro huntsmen. When Jaune is working as a crossing guard, a bunch of moms are seen swooning over him. This was a thing of “Jaune is Miles’ self insert” allegations, along with his new haircut in his new design.

It starts at the 1:04 mark.

I mean, isn't he?
People claim it's unfair and mean to point out that every criteria one could use to accuse self-insertion applies to Jaune, and take the late Oum and Miles Luna at their word when they say it wasn't intended and that "He's just supposed to be a Sokka-type comic relief character". Anyone who claims this isn't a self-insertion just because Miles claims to have "backed off" writing the character is being willfully ignorant and their opinions should not be trusted as card-carrying unironic fans of RWBY.

The script and acting are just bland as hell. All the charm and genuine passion behind the Japanese dub and DiC dub are lost. Really just comes off as something being done out of obligation.
People will say it's just nostalgia, but as someone who didn't watch Sailor Moon growing up, the Viz dub is completely lacking in passion compared to the DiC dub, even if the DiC dub has silly censorship and the side character voice acting is pure insanity. Similar story with the old ADV Evangelion dub vs the new Netflix dub, with the added stupidity that the main ADV cast were still active and recording the characters for projects at the time of the new dub and so were obviously available for a DBZ Kai style redo if Netflix wanted one.

"He's just supposed to be a Sokka-type comic relief character".
Except if they think that then they need to brush up on ATLA. Sokka. was relief character that over the show was grown into serious, but flawed character still capable of being funny. That's not what Jaune is. Jaune started with step two, so in reverse, and never really got into the part of being funny.

Also, as others point out, the show wasn't about Sokka. RWBY 1-4 ARE about Jaune. So is Vol 9.
