What was the concept that the show was being sold on? I thought most people latched on because of the animation on the trailers and the character designs? Not really anything to the shows elevator pitch
The selling point was “cute anime girls fighting monsters”. Where things went wrong beyond that can be found in various parts of this thread.

What went wrong was that other people (Miles & Kerry being the prime offenders) tried to make that simple concept into something bigger than it needed to be.

What the fuck kind of cryptic homosexual enigma code bullshit means by gay coded?
Its tumblr speak for "I want everything to be gay, therefore I will create non-existent evidence to legitimize it to randy's on the internet". Its all just nonsense to try and convince other people that these characters are gay or meant to be gay. They are that petty and narcissistic that they make up nonsensical evidence because they can't handle other people not believing whatever nonsense they believe in.

Imagine if you will, a world where RWBY decided that instead of going the route of large overarching epic involving an ever expanding cast of characters, the writers devoted 80% of the season to monster of the week shenanigans, and 20% to an overarching plot, similar to actual serialized television. The series would probably be better paced, and Ruby might have more character depth than "Gud vs Ebil" speech vending machine.

Are we just circling back to Tokusatsu/Power Rangers?

So what you’re saying is...no Beacon Academy?

Are we just circling back to Tokusatsu/Power Rangers?
Given how the Beacon arc was typical anime things with a side of bigger plot (with V2 even having Blake telling her team to not just give up investigating things in the background and V2 ending with Ruby saying they don’t know anything still but getting a response of “Eh, not everything will wrap up nicely. Let’s head to our dorm and get some sleep”, sounds like it.

TBF, coding is definitely a thing... sometimes.

'Coding' is a catch-all term to refer to people either hinting at or alluding to real world people or traits to imply things about the underlying character, establish a metaphorical connection, or shorthand details about someone's culture with references we understand. For example, the Tauren in World of Warcraft have Native American coding in both their building's designs and their traditional outfits, which means that people have a stereotype they can latch on to without having to go too far into it. It can also make a group's culture feel more cohesive (even if it's really just a hodgepodge of half-understood stereotypes).

The underlying truth, though, is that coding (particularly sexuality coding) relies on stereotyping. Assuming that someone has coded someone as gay because of some behaviour relies on both the Author and the Audience thinking this is something the other person will assume is gay, and knowingly indulging and encouraging that stereotype.

This goes an extra level of stupid when the coding - especially when it's very vague or general coding - is favoured over the harder evidence. Like Weiss openly lusting after Neptune, Blake's previous boyfriend, Yang flirting with boys, etc.

Can someone translate for those who don't understand finer aspects of America's legal system? https://twitter.com/bdunkelman/status/1311147890367246336?s=20

Archive is being stupid at the moment.
Long story short, it's illegal to have political propaganda within a certain radius around polling booths and areas, as it can be seen as trying to subliminally sway votes last minute. It's also illegal to bar entry to such establishments as it's seen as a violation of base constitutional rights. Trump supporters have already been getting caught setting up blockades around polling areas, and Trump's new Poll Watchers group would likely get co-opted by some of the various Proud Boy groups and could slow down or stonewall people planning to vote blue.

I guess RWBY is still popular in Japan.
While I am not familiar with the Japanese FNDM, I suspect that the main reason might be the all-star cast of the Japanese dub.

Japanese (...) have a shit taste (...)
One of the greatest understatements I've seen in my life. The Fate series/Nasuverse is ridiculously popular instead of being ridiculed into obscurity as the badly written shlock and incelbait by a disgusting paedophile that it is, High School DxD has four seasons...while Franken Fran never got an anime adaptation. The absolute fucking state of the Nips...
I've been bitching and moaning about this for a long time. In an alternate reality, RWBY would be to western fairy tales and mythology what JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is to music and Bungo Stray Dogs to novelists. But as I said in the OP, RWBY is the result of Miles' inability to write and Rooster Teeth's inability to keep its shit together.

"DUDE. If Yang had done that to actual girls in chapter 3 of the first volume, NO ONE WOULD BE DEBATING ANYTHING ABOUT BMBLB!"

True. If Yang (and preferably Blake too) had been established as interested in girls, Bumblebee would be a more believable ship and less of a transparent attempt by the writers pandering to shippers because they've run RWBY so much to the dirt that shipping is the only thing left this show has going for.

Reminds me of when Korra went down the shitter and Korra/Asami came out of nowhere and for a month Twitter acted like it was the best show ever.

Now either no-one remembers it or admits it was a letdown as a sequel.
