Not the reason. Apparently YouTube is to blame for no one caring for their constant reuploads.

I'm in a pretty celebratory mood right now, so I'm gonna have to ask the question that's likely hanging over people's heads.

What part of "economy crippling pandemic" do these faggots not comprehend about?
Well, from what I've seen/heard is 1. YouTube has always been a pain in the ass to RT and animation has never really been one to hit the front page (slaves to the algorithm and all that) and 2. Apparently, things like the app is them trying to prove their worth to AT&T/Warner Media and hold onto their IPs.

Case in point, the most viewed video on their channel that's RWBY related is the Red Trailer.

The very first bit we got of RWBY is more popular than their current stuff.

Youtube isn't a pain in the ass - but they don't own the site and as a result don't make as much on advertising and have a harder time seeing a return on investment. The "App" (which apparently isn't out yet) is supposed increase the return on investment because RT would get 100% of AD profit instead of 55%. They also can't sell you "RoosterTeeth First" on YouTube either.

Additionally, they control the content on the APP - so if you watch an episode of RWBY on the App - you won't get a video called "RWBY sucks and here's why" as a suggested "follow up" video.

Sadly (or hilariously) no one at RT seems to know the "golden rule" of Youtube - it's really hard to move your YouTube audience off of YouTube. Amazon/Twitch struggle with it massively; Microsoft/Mixer struggled with it massively; every YouTube competitor struggles with it massively; Viacom/CBS/Giantbomb/Gamespot struggle with it massively - and if those platforms couldn't "figure it out" I highly doubt RvB and RWBY are going to get a lot of people over to the RT app and they'll spend more money developing it than it'll ever make.

A smart plan would have been to finish the fucking app first and then re-upload/amend all of your YouTube content to include ads for your app in order to drive people there and use the "new" shows as app exclusives.

They way they've done it now is to just throw their entire existing YT audience into the trash for no reason - on the hope that the user might go to RoosterTeeth.com and maybe find the article about the new app that's coming soon and will hopefully be interested it in and might remain interested in it to remember it when it releases at an unspecified date in the future. It's the worst digital media strategy I've ever seen - with the exception of the XBOX ONE launch.

Even if the App is free (there by side-stepping the economic angle) - it's still a horrible idea. Much larger companies have tried and failed with various apps over the years and RoosterTeeth doesn't have a "real" catalogue to compete in the digital media space.

Update: all of RWBY (save for the trailers and Episode 1 on the main Rooster Teeth channel) have been completely purged from YouTube, due to Ryan voicing the teacher (alongside anyone who used his voice as inspiration for the character). Never mind, I was completely off, it's mainly because they want people to use their new streaming app.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=V3SJNQPYth0The episodes are still up on Rooster Teeth's website though so, get to archiving this shit while you still can.
Wouldn't it be easier to just put it on HBO Max like they are with the supposedly upcoming Gen:LOCK season 2? Or did HBO decide "no, get that weeb shit out of here"?

If the right-wing conspiracy theorists and religious nutjobs are having issues trying to move their audience to sites like Bitchute, then RT's going to be in a losing battle. Especially since they'd be putting all that behind a paywall that most people don't want because most of them already have to deal with the fees of the other streaming sites. And with 4chan being 4chan, odds are most of the fans are simply going to turn to piracy like most of us. But we know Rooster Teeth is run by incompetents and owned by an even bigger incompetent media conglomerate, proper business models are not something either side know how to accomplish considering how many losses both them and WarnerMedia have suffered for this or that reason.

They still haven't learned that that extra "click" matters?
Needing to go off one of the most popular, well-known video sharing sites to some crappy, lesser known website/app to watch the same show with ads is a recipe for disaster. YT has been the most accessible way to watch this show, for better or worse. Hardcore fans might get the drill and follow, but moving that current casual base off YT is not going to work as well as they think it is. As others mentioned, taking one of their most popular IPs in recent time and doing this is basically going to kill a lot of the remaining engagement they had. .

Again with the "Views on our site are higher" without actually showing the analytics.
They are also doing "okay financially". Just ignore all our talent and upper management fleeing for the hills as increasingly more retarded business strategies are scaring away whatever customer base they have left.

Don’t forget all the sex scandals, advertisers don’t enjoy those.

This isn't just the worst, it's a spit in the face for former fans like me, who at one point happily paid for First because it didn't feel like a paywall, it felt like a chance to watch more content live and support the company, like when you pay to be a part of live audience (I knew friends back in college who paid a friend on the inside of CBS to be a part of the audience for Two Broke Girls). Now? It feels like the only way to really even watch ANYTHING of note is through First. They went from having a subscription that felt more like a VIP service, to when you try to read a news article only to be told "hey, sub to our news site for more content". Like I said in my post here, even watching RTAA feels insulting, because they take content locked behind First, clip the audio, and do a haha funny animation only to be like "you want more? Pay for it, bitch". Fuck that.

I wonder if RT can be dinged for some sort of Anti-Trust thing like what happened with Fortnite.

Not likely - they aren't really possibly large enough to be considered a "monopoly" - they're well within their rights to broadcast their shows exclusively on their app/website/whatever.

The issue isn't a legal one, it's a business one - RWBY isn't a widely loved show like it was years ago and trying to move a youtube audience to a different platform frequently fails. They're going to put a bunch of money/effort into this app and fail to even re-capture 5% of their existing audience.

What does suffer as a result is RWBY's marketability - the fewer people that watch the show also means there's fewer people to buy RWBY merch (Shirts, Manga, Posters, whatever) and means there's less people making and engaging in content creation.

This will further be hurt if they try and tie RT "FIRST" into it - because then you're competing with other companies with much bigger libraries (Prime, Hulu, Netflix, CrunchyRoll, etc) which really represent a much better value. I don't hate RWBY per se, but if you asked me for a recommendation for "I want to spend $10 on a streaming service" RT First would be at the literal bottom of my list - it just provides no value.

Ironic, considering they made a game called Vicious Circle, that they failed to advertise outside of their platform, hell I remember the youtube ads for it were only on their channel.... and now they're doing it again but with RWBY, and their streaming app they ditched years ago, only to suddenly reboot it from nowhere.

When did they make vicious circle? I dont remember hearing a goddamn thing about that until this thread (and the RT one).
